Default Mouth of the Cowlitz Report

CROWDED!!! It looked like a weekend 5 years ago and no I'm not just saying this to keep people away!!

BUT, 2 rods boated 4 Steelhead, releasing 2, including 1 "nice" 10-12 # wild fish. Keepers were about 5 - 6# each. 10' of water, 2 on flatfish (yes FLATFISH, I've always thought they were better than Kwikfish, in the smaller sizes) and 2 on spinners. 3 more hard take downs and a "drive by" or 2.

Not much Chinook action yet.

FYI

Wreckless.

Sounds like your boat did alright for the amount of traffic out there. How did the other boats do?

Other boats didn't do as good...many skunks. (not very often that I get to say that!!) On the other hand there was one boat with 7. The way the sand has filled in, a lot of the area we used to fish in the past is 5 - 6 feet deep. There are FAR fewer good spots to anchor, compared to years past.

I can't imagine what that ramp looked like at 3:30-4 this afternoon when the tide died. I'll bet it was zoo.

I got my limit of chrome bright steelhead. I put on a home made spinner (#3 silver blade/guide green beads) and managed 3 take downs and two hatchery fish. It was crowded but our line did well. Every boat got a least one fish and I saw a 26# chinook caught. Beautiful day too!! Watch out for the sand bars. It gets shallow real quick in places (especially at the boat launch at Gerhart Gardens).

Fished below the Cow fri.,sat.,+ sun. Caught 2 steelhead sat. Friday the bite was on for those in the slot. About 20 fish for our line with several nice chinook maybe over 30 lbs. Another dozen fish for the line above us. Not much down below us, maybe 3 fish. Saturday 7 fish in our line, 2 by me, 3 in the small boat next to me and 2 others...almost all wild steelhead. Sunday was way slow, saw very few nets flying. Did see a 42 lb HOG in a fish box at the dock. Our friendly local police were back at it. Incognito even!! Unmarked open boat and no uniforms..They busted i guy for something? and he was escorted to the Raineer dock so as not to fish while his buddies went back out. The lower Cow is very slotty this year...Hope things widen up when the big fish start showing in numbers. The big HOG was taken below the Longview bridge. There was a line above the bridge...don't know how they did.

I'll be there all week! Starting today, hopefully I can get one of the few "slots" there are this year. Swing over and say "hi". "Wreckless" is a Flatty/150 Yamaha, ifish stickers on stern corners...I'm the fat blonde guy!!
