Default Abassadeur Trophy Series Reels....

With the new Cabela's out and I have been looking at some of the new reels. As usual, many of the new ones still don't come in the left hand retrieve (right way  ). Being a fan of the Ambassadeur C3's I own, I was looking to upgrade to a reel with more bearings and a little smoother. I didn't want to the C4 as it has too fast of a retrieve. So I was checking out Ambassadeur's website and found their Trophy Series. Same style as the C3/4 but with 4 bearings and the same gear ratio as the C3. Looks to be a solid reel and if it performs like my C3's, it should be awesome.

So off to Fisherman's I go. Found the reel and decided to go for it. The reel handle is more of a saltwater style (single knob), but I am going to replace it with one for a C4.

The help I got from Fisherman's was awesome. A BIG "Kudos" to Patrick at the reel counter in Delta Park. He was very helpful and more than entertaining. He gave my wife and I the "smell" test on the new UltraBite scents.

I can't wait to put it on my new rod and shake the skunk of the setup on my first springer.

hey, no complaint here. I LOVE all the right hand retrieves. Being a lefty and a minority, at least with fishing reels I'm all set
Of course when I try to reel with my left hand, it's sure not pretty.

When you say saltwater style handle, are you refering to the power handle?

I'm not sure but I think I ran into a problem when I tried to change the handles on mine. I had to speacial order replacements. It was a while ago but I'm almost possitive they dont swap. I might be thinking of the lock plate on the handle SORRY.

I bought a 6501 TCS last year and love it. The power handle is counter weighted so it feels balanced. I know that several guides that fish out of Astoria use these reels - that's a pretty good endorsement.

Look up Hatteras Outfitters on google. They have easy website with all the parts and they let you know what you need. Nice people to talk to.

Those are verrrrry nice reels. If you switch out the handle back to the double paddle style, you can cast with them all day long.

This is an often requested modification we make at the shop for customers. Any of the ultracast (post '87 or so) ambassadeur 6500 models can be converted to TCS specification. We use all factory parts, including bearing, handle and misc. hardware. It makes for a smoother, more versatile reel and you don't have to pay for the fancy sideplates. You can troll the bays, or cast from the bank. Totally stealth modification!

Reelmeister...what, if any special parts are needed to switch out the handle? I bought a new C3/4 style handle at Ollie Damons and have yet to swap them out. Do I need anything else?

Great idea on swapping out the bearings on other reels, does it work with C3 6501's?

In addition to the handle, you'll need a new nut, plus the nut lock and screw. For the bearing, you'll need a new worm gear and the bearing. Hope that helps. It's pretty painless if you are comfortable working with reels.

It works on the lefty reels too, but be sure you get the correct nut.

Hope that helps. It's pretty painless if you are comfortable working with reels.
