Does anyone know if there are any grocery stores in that neck of the woods that might be selling smelt soon? I'm planning on dipping for my own once the run is in thick, but would like to get some fresh smelt to hold me over until then.

I have a couple dozen frozen, vaccuum packed smelt for free if anyone would like to come pick them up. I do not do a lot of sturgeon fishing so you are welcome.

I wonder how long before we'll need a license for smelt dipping?

LucktSteelieFisherman, Good idea!!! You know those revenues will go right into the general fund along with everything else!! Kinda scary, sure it's in the works though.

They did that already, about 15 yrs back when WA came out with the Food Fish License,it was required for smelt was also the first time a license was needed for sturgeon, salmon(before you just needed a punch card for salmon, just a dealer fee charged)and salt water. They then decided to let us dip smelt but included sturgeon & salmon on the game fish license, then later imposed the salt water license.Don't give em the idea again please,or they may start doing domic toxin tests on smelt or some other excuse to make us pay for em.
