Default There are a few fish in Sandy River!!!

After hearing some discouraging posts on the Sandy, I wanted to share some success from Sunday. Two bright hens caught between Revenue and Dabney. Home by 10:00AM!!

driftphish...never put the tape to them, but the larger one would have to go every bit of 10lbs? Both fish were packed full of row.

My appologies to TYEE-FISHER. It is, in fact, not illegal to retain a salmon or steelhead without providing the length of the fish.
However, I am a Fisheries and Wildlife major at OSU, and frequently volunteer my time with ODFW. The information anglers record regarding length of salmon and steelhead are very valuable statistically speaking. I encourage everyone to take the extra ten seconds to measure and record your catch.
By the way. There are seperate slots for sturgeon and halibat on a harvest tag. Why then, would the length category be included in the steelhead and salmon area? Better yet, why on the little blue sheet that's handed out when you purchase a combined or hatchery harvest tag, are the only examples shown (a chinook salmon and wild steelhead), shown with lengths entered on the tag?
Please, enter all information when retaining and tagging fish. The information is more useful than you realize.

I have ran the sled up to the Stark St Bridge the last couple of times. As stated earlier the fish have moved up and the lower river has been dead. I guess next time I will have to get out the drift boat and stick my way down. I have fun either way.

TYEE,
Hey dude sorry about the whole thing again. Those are two very beautiful steelies you're holding up there.
Please disregard the e-mails, as well. I guess post-Christmas stress and the snow forcing me to stay off the rivers have driven me to near crazy...
Please continue posting reporst and pictures. Even though I don't fish metro streams, I always enjoy seeing other's successes.
Happy New Year!

Don't think for a minute that information isn't given back. Take a look sometime at the catch statistics in the ODFW pages. It will basically tell you when and where to fish any river in Oregon.

This makes me think twice now. I've never entered the length. I don't carry a tape measure. But the information is valuable.

Thanks sparkleboy for all the information. Keep it coming! Good luck on your studies! Keep studying the water too!

SKP
