No. It simply does not work. There have been a lot of articles and even a book written on the subject but it's all a giant con. Kind of like snipe hunting. All us guys who actually catch fish with our drift gear are laughing at all the guys who believe you can catch a fish using a float. Some guys even call them bobbers! We even have some of the more susceptible guys fishing with a big pink worm! It’s all a HOAX!

Hey Dave, the whole thing is a hoax, right? Steelhead don't exist. Just an excuse to buy toys, go outside to play, and ignore the chores around the house. Never ever seen a steelhead caught.

Totally works. Works for Kings, silvers, chums and pinks as well. I have never caught a sockeye on a jig yet though....next year for sure.

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helvetica">Haha! Dave, did you get that book finished: "Snipe Hunting for Steelhead?" Didn't you say you'd autograph it for those willing to shell out $99?

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helvetica">No fish has ever been caught with a float.
Well, maybe a few.
Well, maybe a lot.
Well, almost all of mine are. :-)
Hey BigCoho,
If you really want to know the inside, outside, sideside, upside, backside, and frontside of float fishing, buy Dave's book. I thought I had float fishing figured out pretty well, until I read Dave's book. I wish he'd put a link in his profile thingy to Amato books... *wink wink*
In my opinion it is the single most effective way to catch a steelhead. For one thing, you can put any bait or lure under a float, and secondly, using a float allows you to cover water you wouldn't otherwise be able to cover using drift gear, bait, or hardware.

Re: Do you like 2 float fish for steelhead?
I like to bobber fish with a glob of gooey eggs or a sandshrimp, but it all depends on what type of water i'm fishing too. Deeper, faster water, you can't really bobber fish as well as drift it. And vise vsersa with shallow, slower water. I still need to hook one on a jig and i'll be sold on em'

Re: Do you like 2 float fish for steelhead?
I would agree w/ Dave Vedder...floats, bobbers and all other flotsam simply do not help my fishing at all....I NEVER have used an 11' rod EVER! Those Canadians are pulling our legs!
and I NEVER get a bite using the stupid float rigs...I AM GOING BACK TO THE OLD PLUNKING SHACK!

Yes it is effective, but every technique have its day. It all depend on which section of the river you're fishing.

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=fo'+shizzle+my+nizzle
Perhaps we should just not use this term on ifish. It's just not necessary, is it? Nah... don't think so.
Thanks,
Jen
