Re: McNary Launch
I dont know for sure but it is 16 degrees just south of that area. I'm sure it will be if you get it wet.

Re: McNary Launch
I fish there quite a bit, in fact I am going to try and get over there tomorrow if it doesn't snow tonight and get the roads too slick to pull my boat over there from the tri-cities. Usually the upper ramp doesn't get too bad, and there always seems to be a few people that show up with buckets of sand just in case. If you are careful you can ussually get your boat in and out. If I go I will let you know how it is tomorrow night. They are having a steelhead derby there New Years Day.

Re: McNary Launch
LD, ya, I saw you post about that the other day. We're heading down there tommorow too, try to get practiced up for New Years Day. I'll throw a bag of sand in my pickup in case it's slick. What does your boat look like? I have a 17ft CustomWeld (green paint) with a 120 Evinrude and a Honda kicker. Say hi if you see us.

Re: McNary Launch
I am going to try and get there about 6:00 in the morning. I always like to be the first one in, doesn't seem to be quite as slick then. My boat is a burgundy colored 21' custom weld with a platform on the back and a rail around it. Lately the best fishing has been early in the morning and then a few fish being caught right before dark. It was 8 degrees at Umatilla this morning. See you there tomorrow.

Re: McNary Launch
Anyone have any road reports from tri-cities to McNary? I was going to drive over this morning but when I saw the snow I decided against it. As far as I know the steelhead derby is still on for tomorrow

Re: McNary Launch
I-82 from Prosser to Richland was passable, but I was told not to try trailering a boat. The drive time was doubled. I'm hunkering down for the day, maybe I'll go chop some wood or do some other manly snow-survival related task.

Re: McNary Launch
I just drove the road from Richland to within 10 miles of McNary. It is slick but not really bad. Am seriously considering pulling my boat over there today so that it will be there for the derby tomorrow. Maybe even get in a little fishing this afternoon. I saw other vehicles pulling trilers over the road so I am figuring I can make it just fine. Just have to take your time and not get in a big hurry.

Re: McNary Launch
Ya, I got it worked on, they told me that my Troll King throttle control was holding the throttle open, when starting, and thus flooding the engine. They replaced the spark plugs and charged me $57 for their herculean efforts.
I'm pretty ticked off because the throttle control did not and does not hold the throttle open when set at idle. I told the guy I wasn't happy and now I'm considering my options. I might have a conversation with the owner after the new year, right now I'm trying to focus on putting some fish in the boat.

Re: McNary Launch
We'll be down there for a new boat "shakedown", on Friday afternoon through Sunday. If ya see a 20' white Alumaweld Intruder, give a wave. We'll be the ones that look like we've never been there before (never have)!

Re: McNary Launch
Drive careful Snit!
You asked about Sturgeon fishing. Right below the Dam, on the Deadline, near the wing wall is a good spot. Anchor up above the deadline in the 20 feet of water and drop back. Also down about two blocks on the Wa. side there is a point, right below the power lines. It is above the bridge but you need to be careful not to anchor in the Nav. channel.
Are you gonna fish the derby? Real easy fishery.
My boat is real easy to spot. It says my name on the sides!

Re: McNary Launch
Gents, there is a heavy snow warning for SE Washington and NE Oregon (McNary and viscinity):
NEW YEARS DAY...SNOW. SNOW ACCUMULATIONS OF 3 TO 5 INCHES. HIGHS IN THE MID TO UPPER 20S. LIGHT AND VARIABLE WIND.'
I think I'm going to bag it for tommorow and go goose hunting around Prosser. If you go, drive safe and put some in the boat! I'm probably heading down there Friday if it quits snowing.

Re: McNary Launch
FNF, We're not leaving until Friday (2nd) late morning, so we'll miss the derby. Thanks for the warning about the roads. We've had snow for the last month and a half, so we're pretty used to it by now. Thanks again for the info on the sturgeon too! We're bringing everything just in case  ! Good luck to the derby dudes!!!!

Re: McNary Launch
Just got back from McNary, I took my boat over and left it so it would be there. Talked to three different people and the derby has been changed to saturday. I did get to fish about an hour and a half and caught one 12 pound native.

Re: McNary Launch
As for my kicker motor I am hoping that it is just the spark plug wires. I ordered two new ones but they won't be here until next week sometime. I put new spark plugs in and it worked ok today but I'm sure it won't solve the problem unti I get the new wires. Hopefully I can get by through the weekend.
