Re: Berkley IronSilk?
I heard about this stuff...
They claim it has absolutely no memory on the package
I'm curious to see someone who has experience with the stuff chime in on this....

Re: Berkley IronSilk?
Just started using it this year for my spin rods and its the best mono I have used. Absolutely 0 memory. Fishes perfect first cast of the reel.

Re: Berkley IronSilk?
I tried this stuff this year and I was very disappointed. I got hung up a couple of times and the line broke before I could even pull on it. I hooked a couple of fish one springer and one fall, a couples on minutes into the fight and the line just breaks. I wasn't even putting any pressure on the fish. It just broke like nothing. I could understand it if I was horseing the fish in but I wasn't. After the incident with the fall fish I took the reel down and had Maxima put back on. By the way if your thinking the fish cut my line with teeth they were both hooked with spinners and the line was nowhere near the teeth.

Re: Berkley IronSilk?
My buddie tried this line out on his spinning reel this fall. He said that the line was horrible. He lost 5 spinners in one day and broke off five fall chinook. He switched back to maxima after that trip.

Berkley IronSilk?
In my hunt for low-mem high-vis mono I picked a box of this up the other day at Fishermans. Guy at the counter said he heard good things but hadn't tried it himself.
Comments?
Thanks!!!

Re: Berkley IronSilk?
I used it for one quick trip last week on the coast and didn't have any problems with it. Also talked with a guide who is using it on all of his spinning reels and hasn't had any reason to change yet after the first month of steelhead season.

Re: Berkley IronSilk?
I have been using the Berkley Sensation in Hi Vis and it has been good to me. I think it shows up better then the Ironsilk , I don't remember if there is much of a cost difference between the two.

Re: Berkley IronSilk?
I also had problems with this line. It seemed really nice at first with the #12. But after a few hook ups it seemed to get real weak. I think it stretches out and then breaks really easy. After I lost alot of gear and a few fish I gave up on it. I will stick with #10 Trilene XT with ultragreen leader. I very seldom loose fish due to breakage on this line/leader set up. Just my .02. I've had #10 XT straighten a split ring out on a Steel-Lee before  it's tough stuff.

Re: Berkley IronSilk?
Thx for the replies. Now I don't know if I should even be opening this stuff up :depressed:
It can't be worse than Vanish, you guys have to admit that
I too am an UG lover but I'm looking for hi-vis/low-mem stuff right now. Pls make suggestions that is hi-vis/low-mem & won't break like the IronSilk appears to have done on some of you.

Re: Berkley IronSilk?
I've had no problems with Green Ande line. I won't switch.

Re: Berkley IronSilk?
Wow, can't believe so many negative responses. It has honestly worked great for me. I am using 10lb and I couldn't ask for a better line on my spin rods. I have six rods loaded with it and havn't broke a fish of this year with it. And I'll just say I have caught a few fish this year.
But don't use it if you don't have confindence in it, nothing worse than doubting your line while playing a fish.

Re: Berkley IronSilk?
I spooled two reels with it last year and it worked well at the time. For some reason though I used some of it not that long ago and broke off twice on fish that shouldnt have broken me. Almost like the line was deteriorated due to some reason. Another example on why you need to change your line regularly..
Try TripleFish Camo line...great stuff.

Re: Berkley IronSilk?
Yep, I used that line one time. Was the worst fishing line I have ever used in my life. I was breaking off fish before I got a chance to set the hook. It just broke. My dad and I did some tests on the line. Knot strength was at it's best 30% with a palomar. At it's lowest, 15% with a improved cinch knot. The stuff was garbage. Since then, I have not broken off even ONE fish, using 8 pound Maxima Ultragreen, and a lot of the fish I was catching were big 30+ pound chinook out of the mainstem Nehalem!
