Baby sitters! Try some local high school girls. Check with neighbors for some recommendations. They usually work fairly cheap and you would have a chance to fish.

Re: Idea for the guides fishing/daycare
How about you lather your kids up in tuna oil and hang 'em over the side of the guide's boat. Might turn on the bite.
Even better, put a mask and snorkel on them so they can tell you if you're wasting time fishing a hole with no fish in it.

Re: Idea for the guides fishing/daycare
Sea Nymph - I have a very responsible almost 13 year old who is great with little ones. We live in Aloha, too. When we're not fishin' (which will be much of the time this winter), she would be a great candidate to sit for your little ones... and she doesn't mind getting up early, either!
Email me.

Re: Idea for the guides fishing/daycare
Sea Nymph- As the owner of a daycare I can tell you the state regulations around temporary daycare are crazy so if someone was running a state certified daycare they would have some sever limitations on "drop in daycare" but if it was a case where you were watching some kids (less than 5 in a home) then you would be ok. I used to always wonder why movie theaters never had daycares until I got into the business and read the regs on "drop" in care.
Good idea though. Maybe instead of a trade a trip ifishers could do a trade child care so you can fish one day and I can fish the next.

Re: Idea for the guides fishing/daycare
Yes, that's a great idea!
But I would also like an onboard manicurist, masseuse, and hair stylist.
It would be nice to have the gal at the Clinique counter along, too... just in case she had a good suggestion for a lip color I hadn't tried. You just never know, sometimes... Colors that are far out and wild can catch fish, too!

Re: Idea for the guides fishing/daycare
Sheesh Jennie. This poor guy just wants to get out and fish. How many days did you fish this year? Remember your words next time you accuse us Ifish gents of being barbarically insensitive. Besides, I'd settle for an 'onbank' manicurist.

Idea for the guides fishing/daycare
If this is allready being done, i apologize for this thread. If not, I think it would be a good idea for some of the guides that have the resources to offer temp. daycare for their clients. Trying not to sound sexist, but most guides are men... so if the guide had an unemployed wife, sister, daughter or whoever that could watch the kids of their clients, they might get a few more clients.
I don't know if it would be worth the extra hassle and expenses but I know I'm unable to fish since on my days off I'm taking care of a 2 1/2 and a 1/2 year old. My fishing days are totally on hold for who knows how long but if there was a guide that offered daycare.... I'd be there (if not to expensive that is). I dunno... maybe I just miss fishing so much I'm dreaming.
Any ideas of how I can get out on the water and trust my kids are safe? We have no family in the area that is able to help out. My boat is going to be the oldest new boat around...

Re: Idea for the guides fishing/daycare
Dear Jennie
I can easily provide you with your wished for services during several of the fisheries I conduct. I always use fresh gloves for every customer. Our on board cosmotoligist would be happy to reccomend some stylish new lip colors to go with your lovely strawberry-blond hair. I would strongly suggest you opt for our experienced onboard masseur who will need something to do upon the arrival of his new autopilot. We await your reply with slightly baited breath

Re: Idea for the guides fishing/daycare
you guys have a lot of good ideas. i figured there might be some (a bunch) of legal red tape for drop-in type daycare.
The problem I've got with having a school age babysitter is that I can't fish on the weekends. I work over at Intel on one of their "compressed work weeks" and work on Saturday and the wife won't let me do anything on Sundays since it's our only day together.
One of you mentioned that I should bring them with me.... I would have to get up at 2am just to leave by 5, two diaper changes at the dock, a bottle feeding for the youngest and some snacks for the oldest after anchoring up, keeping the hooks away from the two would be a full time job in itself much less keeping all my gear from being thrown overboard. By now it's probably changing time again. I probably wouldn't have had any bites because the oldest would have been swinging on my rod in the holder while I was trying to get the little one to stop crying. By this time it would be time to bait up again. Instead of doing that though... I should start looking for my boat key that suddenly turned up missing... Nah, I probably won't take them with me just yet.
Happy fishing!

Re: Idea for the guides fishing/daycare
Don't give up!! My 6 year old and my 2 year old are some of my best fishing/crabbing companions. I just posted this on Salty dogs, but it seems appropriate on this thread!! Bring them up with a love of all things outdoors and they will be begging you to take them out!! My 2 year old screams out at the top of his lungs ...."FISHING!" whenever he sees a body of water
