Default Trash on the NF Alsea - HELP!!!!

As most of you know who fish the NF of the Alsea, most of the access is on private land that has been open for many years. My greatest fear is that one day, a no trespassing sign is going to appear at the start of my favorite trail because a landowner gets fed up with the "trash issue". It has already happened on certain stretches. Because of the numbers of people fishing it only takes one inconsiderate person out of a dozen to start turning the river bank into a trash dump. Already this year my fellow fishermen and I have picked up beer and soda cans, wads of fishing line, empty worm boxes, empty lure packages, etc, etc, etc :depressed: Unfortunately, we will never eliminate the slob fisherman from the equation as these are usually the same outlaws fishing without proper licenses, tags, etc.

I'm asking ifishers who I know already pick up after themselves and others to encourage others to do the same. If we show proper respect for the landowner perhaps we can keep fishing this beautiful stretch of water far into the future.

Thanks for your help!

I carry a small plastic bag from the store with me and pick up enought cans and bottles thru the year to pay for a reel or rod. Its the fish line and bait containers that are left by lazy people that is upsetting. If I had water front property I wouldn't want to have to pick up after others.

I find my net gets more use as a garbage bag than as a net. There has been an on going battle on the Santiam over the same thing. If you find a cure let me know.

Good Reminder!!

What many people don't realize is that much of the NF Alsea fishing access is on private property. Even some of the so called public access areas really are privately owned. We have already seen several areas of this river shut down to angling due to the litter/abuse issue.

To those few that need reminding:

Throw your beer cans in the back of your pickup, not on the ground.
Pack your used line and other trash out.
Pick up trash that others have left behind.
Be courteous and respectful to all property owners and residents of the area.
If it says "No Trespassing" or "No Public Access", it means you shouldn't be there.

These are very simple things. The consequence of not heeding these is very likely fewer areas to fish.

Its a good thing we don't live up north. Have you seen some of the Portland-area rivers? Transplanted landfills.

It`s to bad there is such a small few people that can screw it up for the rest of use. These people that do this aren`t fisherman they are pigs!!!! I fish the Siletz gorge alot and I`m always picking up trash that these pigs are leaving. I wish there was a way we could get this stopped before we all loose the right to fish. I really don`t think these people care, they will just go somewhere eles.

There is a way to help and get help doing it for all rivers. We adopted the river From Mill City to Mehema on the North Santiam. Contact S.O.L.V.and they can help you to work with the land owners so you do not have to give up your trail. F.Y.I for GOT2FISH. I donate my Rapidcat pontoons for clean-up days. Pickin up trash and catchin' fish. What a way and day to utilize all of your tools.
