Default sturgeon bust. a long stay at the dock.

Guess I was'nt mean to be.
I wanted to check out the new boat saturday so I invited riverkeeper and safety chain to join me.
I've had the motor running just fine, but I think I left some switch on or something because when we launched, both batteries were pretty dead. I took the battery out of my truck, but that proved fruitless. Safetychain then drove home for a jump charger, we got the motor to turn over but not fire up. eventually I threw in the towel and called it a day.
I did notice that when I raised the motor what looked like freash 2-stroke oil was dripping out of the lower unit. Maybe from choking the motor and having it not fire up for so long and burn it off. It's a 200090hp oil injected merc with 65 hours on it. I'm hoping this is normal for the situation I was in with the motor not turning over. Any ideas. I'll likely call a maine mechanic and check too.
Thanks riverkeeper and safetychain for the patience and good attitude out there, beign both
boat owners, you guys know how stuff can happen
sometimes. I'll get ya both out again soon.

GBS,

While we did not get the motor running, it was still good to meet both you and Riverkeeper. I have been there, exactly where we were as a matter of fact doing the same thing. We'll get out as soon as you make this season's donation to the fish gods

I know when I had my boat, it was an annual requirement, regardless of how well I winterized and stored it. The boat would not fully function without a financial donation (usually substantial) to the local marine industry.

Let me know what is determined to be the issue.

SC,
Called stevens marine and spoke to the mechanic. He said with an oil injected motor the 2-stroke can build up and drip out the exhaust like that, especially if the engine is heavily choked and will not start. He did'nt seem to feel it was an issue at all. I've got both batteries charging and will get her running smooth this week. Look for a call this weekend to get back out and try the bait.
see ya soon,
GBS

And with a 200,000+ horsepower motor, I'm not surprised a truck battery wouldn't turn it over  .

I think it was the extra 90hp that put it over the top

Suggestion: take both batteries to a place that has the ability to test them. Les Schwabs for example. Make sure they are worthy...
