Re: Good fishing gloves?
OR Guillotine is what I wear. Fleece with a slightly padded palm. The padded palm is a material that I can't describe really. It's kind of like neoprene/rubber. Anyway, they took a pounding in the rain while I was wearing them on the river and rowing my drift boat. I never lost control of the oars or nor did my hands sieze up on me all the while the gloves were soaking wet. They cost around 35.00.

Re: Good fishing gloves?
I have three pairs of glacier gloves. You can purchase liners for these gloves and they can't be beat. I wear them in Alaska for Coho fishing. Most importantly they meet the approval of my wife for keeping her hands warm. If you want to know if it keeps you warm just hand it to your wife and let her use it. They will let you know if they are cold at all.
You should get the type with the bent and split finger. They can be a little tougher to get on and off so having the split finger is great.
The glacier gloves need to be a little big if you want to add the liners if you don't buy them a little they will limit your circulation in your hands. The glacier gloves with the bent finger are hard to find.
Jennie maybe since it appears Fishermans doesn't seem to carry them we could post a link to a site?

Re: Good fishing gloves?
I've used a lot of different gloves and have settled on the Kenai flip mits mentioned above. They seem to perform the best even when they're wet. I also got them @ Fishermans, about $12.
I recently started using those disposable "Hot Hands-2" hand warmers. I stuff one inside the glove on the backside of my hand, boy is that nice!

Re: Good fishing gloves?
I am possibly moving to Alaska, so I will be needing some good warm gloves for that harsh weather at times. I was at fisherman's marine today but I wasnt paying any attention, to the Glacier gloves. I bought a t-shirt and a taxidermy trout... hehehe.

Glacier gloves. No question about it. They have a web site and you can get them there or through fishermans. .com is where you'll find them.

Re: Good fishing gloves?
I don't care for the glacier gloves. They work, but I hate how they feel. I go back and forth between a pair of Patagonia fleece fingerless gloves, and a pair of Columbia gortex/fleece duck hunting gloves. The Columbias are the most comfortable, but you have to take them off to bait up. I use them when I'm running the boat. the Ratbegonias get used when I'm actively casting.

Re: Good fishing gloves?
Just goes to show you personal preference, I guess... but I had the Pategonias, and when I tried on the Glaciers, what a world of wonderful difference!
I think you have to try them on and see what feels best.

Re: Good fishing gloves?
There are quite a few choices with the glacier gloves. Which model do you guys use? The full neoprene or the neoprene palm with the fleece back or what? My experience with full neoprene gloves is that my hands sweat a little and then get ice cold.

Good fishing gloves?
Hello all,
Went out yesterday in search of fishies. Couldn't find my old mangy fingerless gloves. Thought to myself, "No problem; how bad could it really be?"
The answer of course, is QUITE BAD!!! Total time on the water was 53 minutes, about 15 of those minutes were spent fumbling gear onto the ground, into the water, etc. Hands got so cold that I didn't notice the stray hook sticking in the side of my hand until it caught on my coat. Finally gave up. Glad I didn't have to take a leak; the consequences would have been tragic... Anyway, enough of my whining. What's the best kind of gloves for wintertime fishing? I never want to suffer like that again. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Steve
By the way, my wife was pleasantly surprised to see me back home so early...

Re: Good fishing gloves?
Novice, on the homepage of Ifish you'll find Jennies favorite products. Glacier Gloves are the ones and I'd seriously consider the bent finger pair with slits for the thumb and forefinger. I haven't been able to find them at either FMS or Joes, maybe I'm looking in the wrong spot. I have been using black fleece kenai gloves I picked up at FMS for about $12 and they have nbeen really nice. I would like to get a pair of the glacier gloves for keeping the hands a little dryer.

Re: Good fishing gloves?
I have three different kinds.
Generic Rag Wool fingerless
Patagonia fingerless
Kenai fleece fingerless with fold-over mitten flaps
I like all of them, but generally use the fleece Kenais for colder weather and the Patagonias for when it's not quite as cold.

Re: Good fishing gloves?
If it gets cold, stick it in the water. The water is warmer than the air. Let me know how that works out for you.

Re: Good fishing gloves?
I have found that wool keeps you warm wet or dry. They are also very inexpensive. The drawbacks are severe itching (remember that wool sweater that never gets worn). Also, hooks really have a problem of getting caught in them.
