Re: Mad Salmon Disease found in NW..
Wife, family members and close friends meet you at the door upon returning from the river for an intervention. They drag you kicking and screaming to the nearest and earliest Salmononomous meeting. As you walk in the door and begin reading the name tags of the others in the group, you realize that all the names are actually iFish monikers. And for the first time in your life, you realize that all these people don't really look like graemlins.

Bloodshot eyes because you're so excited with anticipation about springer fishing that you have trouble sleeping.
And your spouse has red eyes too, because you awaken her regularly as you sit up quickly in the middle of the night, reaching for the rod to set the hook while dreaming about springers.

Re: Mad Salmon Disease found in NW..
Buying boats that have little practical application aside from fishing. Re-designing the garage to accomodate the new boat while the cars sit outside sulking in the rain. Buying way-too-spendy reels. Loading up on Maxima Ultragreen (25 pound). Polishing the prawn spinners. Lubricating the bead chain swivels.
And for some --- coating your Mag Wart hooks in phosphorescent paint.

Not being able to walk a stright line because of all the days in a row spend in your boat bouncing up and down in the waves caused by the constant wind at the wind river.

Re: Mad Salmon Disease found in NW..
Fear No Fish,
We've met before. A few years ago there was an older (50's) guy that fished up there every spring named Neil. That was my father. His ashes now rest out there by the point and his little old green starcraft now resides with me. With a boat like yours, it's hard to be incognito. imean, who could forget a boat like that and the story behind it?
Here's my springer stuff-
When you drive up to the Mouth of the Wind River in the middle of the night to launch your little leaky boat just to tie it up and wait till morning. Meanwhile, you sleep in a fetal position in your Grundens (as stated ealier) in the cab of your little Toyota Tacoma truck, which is convieniently parked right next to the train tracks. The effects of a night such as this can be seen and felt the next day out fishing.
Personally, I've been tempted to go over to the point (where the bankies are) just for comradary, a good gun fight or to just have one (bankies) of them hop in my boat for a change. I'm sure a random act of kindness like that would blow their minds.
I've even been walking along and had the ground come up and hit me square in the face. All this can be yours as well with sleep deprivation.
When you finally DO get to a place where you can step back inside your normal frame of mind (and sleep patterns), you realize that you still have springer belly-meat grease all over your face as though you just came from some ceremony where salmon was used as a hallucinogenic drug.
"What a Lonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng strange trip it's been." And that was only two days.
Your hands are now cracked and sore from the elements (cold and wind) and teeth cuts from the fish. We won't mention the occasional encounter with the Gami replacement treble hooks
Your hair is a mess.
Your breath would gag a maggot and serve as a built in self defense mechanism.
The bags under your eyes are as big as garbage sacks and as heavy as the gunny sack of fish stuffed under the boat seat.
Going over to the park mid-day and sleeping in the box of your pick up is not frowned apon.
Let's see did I miss anyhting?
Ragnar

some of the "syptoms" hurt my gut laughing.
Another symptom is dreaming of fishing more than 2 nights a week.

Re: Mad Salmon Disease found in NW..
Fear No Fish,
Thank you for the kind words.
Yes, we all miss him very much. It has been almost exactly two years now. I look forword to seeing you as well. However, I may not be in the little green starcraft (leaks pretty bad). I usually bum rides with whoever. You never know....
I'm sure we'll bump into eachother.
For those of you who enjoy adult beverages...If I may be so bold as to ask a favor from fellow fishermen... Please join me... Raise your glasses high my friends. Sorry for getting a bit "off topic" here.

You have to go fishing again real soon because,
If you didn't catch a fish you have to go back and figure it out, and
If you did catch a fish you have to go back because you finally did figure it out.

Re: Mad Salmon Disease found in NW..
having to live on 50 minutes of sleep because you are so stressed out about having to get up to fish. you toss and turn, watch the clock cause you don't want to miss the alarm. if you are late, you'll miss THE spot, and then what will you do all day?? sleep, what is that??
