Default Fish weight calculator(?)

I know I have seen one on ifish, but because I didn't need it at the time, I didn't pay enough attention to it. I was fishing the Sandy this morning and got into an exceptionally large steelhead. I asked for a fish scale for christmas, instead got cooking utensils (thanks dear, its what I always wanted). Anyway, I managed to get the fish in, broke my rod doing it, but did get the fish. It is 39.5 inches long and 19.5 inches around right ahead of the dorsal. I have never posted a pic before, but once I get it figured out, I'll get a picture of this brute up. It had quite a bit of color, I think it may be a summer fish from this past summer. Can someone tell me how to figure the fish weight based on those two measurements?

This isn't what you wanted, but as a general rule we used to figure a 25" steelhead was about 5# then we added one pound for each inch. It worked pretty good for average fish. Your fish sounds nice and probably pushing twenty!!
Nice job

USUALLY 40 BY 20 IS AN AUTOMATIC 20 POUNDER. YOURS WAS PROBABLY 20 +/- NICE FISH. WHAT RIVER DID YOU CATCH IT ON? I CAUGHT A NATIVE LAST YEAR ON THE WILSON-IT WAS A HEN THAT MEASURED 41 BY 25, IT WAS HUGE! WE FIRST THOUGHT IT WAS A CHINOOK, BUT I GUESS IT WAS PROBABLY 22-25 POUNDS IT'S AMAZING TO SEE STEELIES THAT BIG. PUT A PICTURE UP IF YOU GET IT.

Here's the formula... I got it out of salmon trout and steelhead magazine a while back. If I remember right it was figured out by some biologists it is supposed to be accurate within a few ounces...
First thing for me was to know what squared meant ( OK I'm no math whiz) Squared is multiplying a number times itself... the formula is length x girth squared divided by 775 in your example girth squared is 380.25 ( 19.5 x 19.5 = 380.25) x length Divided by 775. (Length 39.5) x 380.25=15,019 divided by 775 = a 19.38 lb fish.
Nice going... this formula is as accurate as I've found... write it down on a card and keep it in your wallet so you can refer back to it later! The girth measurement is to be taken right in front of the dorsal as you have done!
lets see those photos
