Default What rights do you have!

Does anyone have any information on the rights of land owners to stretch a cable across a river, and the post no trespassing signs on it. This is happenoing on the Lyre River in NW Wash.? Seems like a possible safety issue, unless this river is completely non-navigatable.

I don't know for sure but I am almost positive that they have no rights whatsoever to stretch a cable across a river. They can however stop you from coming up on the bank. The local sherriff's office should be able to help you out with this and help to get rid of the cable.

I look at it this way. If it becomes a non-issue for people, and they just let it go. It won't be long before they say that this is a past practice and no one complained, before and BANG! We will soon have cable's stretched across rivers all over the state. Mind you that this river is planted and the group that is performing this aledged act is a private fishing club. Another fine use of your tax dollars.

If it interfers with navigation it is illegal. All surface water in Washington belongs to the state you can float any river you want. I'd say report him to the cops He does not own the water and cannot interfeer with you floating it.

Is this cable stretched just on the surface or under the water to deter fishing? Or is it 1 to 3 feet above the water to closeline anybody drifting down the river.

Different levels of criminal activity.
