Default questions for experiencd drift boat oarsmen

When I come to a nasty looking spot on my river, like a tight corner with sweepers, or a logjam, I will line my boat down thru it. My question is do most guys keep a line tied to a bow eye, or one tie to the stern all the time? Is it better to line the boat with the rope tied to the stern or the bow? I kind of like the rope tied to the stern, the boat seems more controlable that way. I don't really like having a rope in the boat tied to an eye, the less clutter like that the better. Lastly, about how long an anchor rope do most people use? I've got a 14' lavro, with a 25lb. anchor. Thanks!!

I personally snap it to the bow eye. However, I think its mainly personal preference. As far as an anchor line, anchor, etc. I use a 50 foot anchor line and 45lb. anchor on an original 16 by 48 Alumaweld. Heavy to pull at times but the anchor stays when you drop it. I'm sure others have different preferences.Hope this helps.

The proper way to line a drift boat is to attach the line to the stern. I like to use my anchor rope for this purpose, which is 50-70ft long.

I'd say 50-75' of anchor line would be more than you would need for anchoring most rivers. As for lining the boat, keep the boat facing downstream and use the anchor line but keep a line on the bow eye as well for extra control and in case the boat gets away from you.
