Water color & level on the Naselle was near-perfect for steelheading this morning but water temp was probably too cold for steelhead to be very active. Air temp was 35-36 degrees and snow/rain mix fell steadily. OlyDrifter, in photo, fished the stretch from the Hwy 4 bridge downstream thru the first long, deep hole at mid-morning. No bites. Saw a soreback salmon roll. Very light angling pressure...no other bank anglers...one empty drift boat trailer in parking lot. We threw in the towel when the clouds really opened up and dumped sheets of icewater.
We fished River X at dawn...a small stream in the vicinity that shall remain un-named...and water conditions were about like the Naselle...no action there, either.
Both River X and the Naselle had large numbers of half-deteriorated chum salmon carcasses lining the banks...somewhat stinky at 35 degrees...but will be good for the next generation of salmon & steelhead.
On the way back to Longview snow was coming down hard at the summit of KM Mtn...several cars were spun out & in the ditch...but we got across OK.
