Default Steelhead anchor fishing on the CR

I am going on a "scouting trip" for sturgeon tomorrow and I wanted to anchor up for steelhead for a couple hours too. I am going to fish off of a beach with no bank access, where there is a natural curve or point in the river. I have three questions;

-How deep should I fish?

-I am planning on using a spreader and 3 ft. lead line so what should I use on the other end of the spreader? ex. plugs, spin-&-glo, spinner

-Are there many steelhead going up the CR right now?

Thanks for you help! I will post a report on how fishing is tomorrow.

I have always used a shorter lead line - from 16 to 24 inches. A U-20 flatfish in hot orange, or sandshrimp and spin-n-glo works well. The spot I like is about 8 feet deep, I'd fish out to 12-15 feet in other spots.

BW 23,
I missed the post 1st time around. Another good U20 for metalheads are the Red with black dots pattern. That pattern has worked very well for several years and we even plunk them above a spin-glo as a slider, very effective.
