Default Sandy Report / Siwash Question

Hit the Sandy again today. Same spot as last post, third cast (with a BF spinner) and I had my fish on. Played it for what seemed a couple of minutes, got it to within a few feet of me and the hook popped out. Around 8 lbs and definetly a hatchery fish (no adipose). So 3 trips (Gnat Ck, Sandy), 4 fish on, one landed. Steelhead seem, for whatever reason, harder to get in with a spinner (in my opinion) compared to say a silver. None of these fish jumped; simply twisted and ran - the typical fight. So my question is whether replacing the trebles with siwash hooks is the key. Better penetration vs. multiple hook sets? You tell me!!!

get some 1/0 siwashes and you wont lose so many fish. they tend to bury the hook in the corner of their mouth..

chuckdog.. I have studied all kinds of hook and hookup to landings ratios and the only thing i have ever come up with is that. Sometimes they just come unbuttoned.. Sometimes lots of them in a row come unbuttoned. Sharpen your hook and hope for the best thats really all you can do..

Glad to see someone knows where the fish are. .

I tried it for a couple of hours yesterday afternoon - still haven't found a fish. Tried a different approach (hotshots from the bank) - December definitely turned out to be my experimenting month. Water looked great - winds were at bay so it was a nice day to be out trying.

Chuckdog, I generally replace the trebles with 1/0 or 2/0 siwash when I'm casting spinners from the bank. When I'm trolling I'll just sharpen the trbles up real good. I like a few more hook points to stick somewhere when they bite.

I replace mine with siwash also! Easier to drive home one hook deep rather than 3!! Just my .02
