McNary steelhead derby Dec. 27th
There is a steelhead derby at McNary Dec. 27. I have been trying to find out a few more details but I have been gone for a few days. All I have been told is to be at the boat ramp at 6:00 AM to get signed up. If it is like last year it is $10 per person and they ussually pay 3 places depending on how many entrants there are. There will be this one tomorrow and then there will be another one New Years day. Last year there were a lot of people that showed up. I was out this afternoon for a couple of hours and the parking lot was full when I got there. I landed a 14 pound native just before dark. I'm sure that it will take at least 16 pounds or bigger to win. See you there.

Re: McNary steelhead derby Dec. 27th
Hardly any fish caught today in the derby. We had snow, wind, sun, and lots of people. My trolling motor started giving me trouble about 8:30 this morning. Fought it until noon and bagged it. Guess it is time for a new one, or maybe an electric. Saw three fish caught and none of them in my boat. Too bad to, just about anything would have won it. Saw one fish caught about 16 pounds, they weren'y in the derby. Don't know how big the fish was or if they even paid all three places. Dead day on the water today. Hopefully the New Years derby will be better.

Sorry to hear about your motor troubles. Time to spend some money. I have to send my Lowrance X-15 in to be repaired. Flat rate fee of approx $160  Remember boat stands for: Break out another thousand. Let people know about the Derby on New Years. I might even drag my butt out there.

All I know about the derby new years day is that you need to be at the boat ramp by 6:00 in the morning to pay your $10. The weigh in is ussually at 12:00 or 2:00 I can't remember which. The guy who runs it likes to get it over with so he can get home and watch football. Sometimes on new years it is a winner take all. Ussually well over $500.

Leo,
Sent you a PM...Hang in there...Boat troubles are part of life if you own one as we all proably know...
I know the weather through the gorge is very iffy right now...
I will let you know what is going on...I am finally taking a day off here today to recharge my batteries...Something about a body when it has been deprived the sleep it needs...

Leo,
Is the derby on the 1st or the 3rd? I heard that you had a pretty exciting launch that morning. That ice can be pretty scary.

Re: McNary steelhead derby Dec. 27th
The derby is the first for sure. Yes it was an exciting launch for sure. When I started down the lower ramp my pickup, boat and trailer took off sliding. It didn't stop until my boat was all the way in the water and my pickup was half sideways in the ramp. Barely pulled just my trailer out in 4WD. After that nobody used that ramp anymore. The upper one isn't quite as steep and someone had brought a lot of sand to put on it.

Re: McNary steelhead derby Dec. 27th
I had that happen to me at Scootney Reservoir. It is a very long ramp to the water. Totally out of control, sliding like an ice cube across the floor, managed to hit the ramp just like I knew what I was doing. Had my two kids at the top of the ramp, waving their hands like crazy and screaming stop! Wouldn't ya know the bathrooms are locked in the winter. Couldn't even clean up!
