Why Use a Bead in Conjuction With a Corkie?
What is the purpose of adding a bead between the hook and the corkie? I understand that with a spin-glo you add the bead so that it will spin better, but why would you want your corkie to spin? I usually stick a toothpic in the corkie so that it doesn't slide up the line. Thanks in advance to any response.

Well, the bead does move the corky further away from the hook, making it easier for the fish to get a hold of the hook, or making it easier for the hook to get a hold of the fish?

Re: Why Use a Bead in Conjuction With a Corkie?
the thing I noticed after tring it with the most tinyest bead i could get yesterday (pinhead size)was the finish is protected from the hook eye. usually when you hang up the corkie is jammed against the hook eye and some of the finish comes off showing a plastic white patch, and I end up tossing the corkie in the garbage, after using the bead I will never fish without it again saving my corkies for more use ..thanks KHH for the tip and your rigging pics for the heads up!!

Re: Why Use a Bead in Conjuction With a Corkie?
Hey fishlkr, jus throw those old corkies my way  !!! Really, I've always wondered the same thing about using the bead. It just seems like another step in the re-tying process to keep me out of the water just a little longer. I'm also a scrounge, so I love catching fish on the old bobbers I've found in back eddies! Some have no paint left on them, and they can still work. Different strokes.....

Hey Fshklr, I like it when my corkie gets beat up, seems like it helps. Also love it when my favorit plug gets beat up! Just my opinion of course

Re: Why Use a Bead in Conjuction With a Corkie?
my reference to the garbage is a can 18" tall and 6" wide that sits in the laundry room..that is were my retired bin is(somethings get put back in service..some don't  )I too like em beat up sometimes, just was passing on what the bead seemed to do for me Just like a spin-glo or plug that is scarred, teeth marked, or faded..if it catch's fish or is catching fish I will retie it over and over and over and over and...well you know!!

Re: Why Use a Bead in Conjuction With a Corkie?
Some people use a tiny bead in a different color to provide a tiny bit of contrast, kinda like a eyed egg has a tiny bit of contrast. May be something or may be just a confidence builder, or may be nothing. Its not exact science, its much more, its FISHING

Re: Why Use a Bead in Conjuction With a Corkie?
FSHKLR...hit the nail on the head...The corkie...birdie...okie...whatever has more durability resting on a bead vs. the eye of the hook...
I know you may say its floating so what differnce does the bead make, but if it encounters debris then it is forced down on the bearing bead instead of the eye of the hook which could potentially damage it...
You can use very small beads by the way...
Good luck...
