Re: Courtesy Folks
On a more positive guide note. The other day while standing in the middle of the Wilson River, Bob Rees rowed very hard against a very heavy wind to go behind me and not over the water I was fishing, even after I told him to row right through. Nice ettiquette and a nice guy.
As a driftboat owner, I will do everything possible to not row over water someone is fishing. Sometimes it is not possible or the boat will bang in shallow water. I think if I was on the bank fishing, I would much rather have a boat go over water I was fishing, than bang and really shake up the fish. I am not saying this hapenned in your case, just a general thought.
Just like some driftboaters prefer a sled to go by fast on plane (I do) and some prefer them to go by slow, bank fishermen are hard to read when drifting by. Generally it is accepted that a driftboat going by, row as close to the bank fishermen as possible and not over their water. Some bank fishermen flip out when you do this. They don't understand that you are trying to be polite and not disturb their water. I assume they think you are being a smart *** and trying to see how close you can get to them. It is hard for some to understand until you are behind the oars and see things from the boat, that you don't see from the bank.
