Clamming/crabbing opportunities
I think I have created a monster.....a friend of mine and I have been talking about clamming and crabbing. I have never clammed, and have only crabbed a little. My friend has done neither. I have a good idea where to go and how to for crab, but I have no clamming knowledge. I'm thinking of Tillamook bay for the clams. Any pointers on where to go in the bay? Any razors on the nearby beaches (Rockaway, Barview) ? Will crab at the old CCG station or use my boat. Any info, please......thanks

Re: Clamming/crabbing opportunities
For clams I'd skip Tillamook and head for Netarts. Crabs can also be had there. For razors you need to head North to the Clatsop beaches.

Re: Clamming/crabbing opportunities
Im not very versed in crabbing but as far as razor clams I do it in on the long beach pennisula area and do quite well. There is crabbing and clamming in willipa bay as well. The razor clams are regulated in WA so you have to watch for seasons. FYI their is a season for them this comming Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday.

Re: Clamming/crabbing opportunities
Saturday night on Sunset Beach, just north of Gearhart, we ended up with a couple of limits of razors. They weren't showing real well, but persistent pounding yielded a nice bounty!

Re: Clamming/crabbing opportunities
For soft shells, netarts will be a better bet. For the butters, head for the little island just west of the coast guard station at tillamook bay, it's only accessable during low minus tides. There is a parking lot at the railroad tracks where you climb down to access the clam beds.

Re: Clamming/crabbing opportunities
I have been reading the responces to your request for info. All very good tips. Just be sure of one thing, be sure to have your Oregon shellfish licence. It's a must.
Good luck
