Default Wilson 1-11-04

Tried some new water today, floated from Vanderzanden (sp?) to the Guide Shop. Boy that slide is steep! A special thanks to fellow Ifisher "Dirt" who loaned me his rope and helped lower my boat down. And a extra special thanks to his partner who fished my oars out of the river when they shot out of the boat at the bottom! Doh...I have to tie those down next time.

After that things went better. The water was high but was steelhead green. Released a beautiful native in the teens, nothing after that.

Thanks again "Dirt" and partner for all your help at the launch, you guys are great.

Way to try something different!

I have always been a little scared about that ramp...

But I have to admit I laughed out loud when I read about your oars. I could picture it perfectly..."DOH" is right! Glad you were able to recover them.

A couple of years ago I was flagged down by a driftboat on the shore of the Sandy as I went by on my sled. It seems that he had lost an oar, and was asking for a ride down to look for it. In about 20 minutes, I swear that oar traveled close to a Mile down river

I can imagine it could ruin a day with out the oars.

Thanks for the report! See you on the water...

At least you didn't loose the whole boat.

Vanderzanden is downright scary. I avoid it.

Many years ago, a client of mine tried to "Help" me put my boat in at the Vanderzanden put-in.

She had her hands on the rail as my boat came down the ramp at its normal warp speed, due to the steep angle.

At the vey last second, I yelled, "Move you hands now". Fortunately, she reacted more out of fear than knowledge and avoided a catastophe.

That put-in a disaster waiting to happen. Losing oars can be the very least of your troubles!
