Default Who's fishing Astoriaish?

Anyone gonna fish down by Astoria for sturgeon on the opener? I was thinking of going down there if the weather wasn't going to be to nasty. Am I wasting my time or what? I know the sturgeon are staging for the smelt runs but I'm thinkning there is going to be a ton of people fishing those areas. Any input would be appreciated. Email me if you want.

I'm thinking about a combined sturgeon/crab trip. Good crab tides starting around the 5th. Drop three pots then go sturgeon fish. Incoming may not be best for sturgeon but I should be able to get one.

I went down to the Astorish area Monday afternoon. I had a couple of cold adult beverages with a friend of mine who lives in Chinook and they have been out a few times in the last couple of weeks chasing sturgeon. He told me that they have been catching fish and trying some spots that they havn't fished in the past. Your biggest challenge is going to be the weather but there are some fish there.

On another note we threw the crab pots out Monday around 3:00 PM. Then went claming up at Seaview. Easist clamming we have had this year. We got 3 limits in 30 minutes and all decent clams. We picked up the pots Tuesday around 11:00 and scored 39 keeper crabs in 5 pots. Then hit the Necanicum on the way back to PDX with only an hour to spare for getting a line wet and scored a nice little 6# steelie. TRIFECTA!!!

Days like this are rare but this is the reason I choose to live in this beautifull area called the Pacific N.W.

Have a great time and be carefull !! That Columbia does some strange things this time of year.
