The Rogue during Christmas....

I am heading down to Grants Pass tomorrow and will spend 5 days there. Id like to bring a rod and spend some time on the river... but im not from there, and am clueless about the timing of the runs. I know the fish runs are at different times on the Rogue from the rivers i usually fish.

Not asking for anyones honey hole, just a heads up on if there are any steelhead or salmon near Grants Pass in fishable numbers. And mabye a general area of the river that has some accesible spots from the bank. thanks...

there are a lot of fish below the dam, due to the high water many fish are just shooting upriver. try working mcgregor park near lost creek resevoir. its a drive that will take u about 45 min, but well worth it. packs some eggs, and pretty heavy slinkys, and look for deep pools, concentrate on the tailouts. you might also try casey state park. we have been limiting there on a daily basis. good luck. oh and even if the river is flooded. above butte creek is rarely fully blown, so go give it a shot.

Winter fish are being caught all the way from Grants Pass down.

I would head out Merlin/Galice Road through Merlin and on down. Once you get within view of the river just watch for turnouts or Indian Mary park, Ennis Riffle, Galice, Rand and on down and there are lots of good bank spots....
