Default .17 Winchester Super Magnum Rimfire

Have you checked this out yet? A new 17 Rimfire that will launch 20 grain bullets at 3000fps, and 25 grainers at 2600fps! The case is based on a .27 caliber stud driver that Winchester is already making. This is a real step up over the .17HMR and should be a decent round for called coyotes, especially for those that don't reload.

I great choice if you don't reload, but I would opt for the 17 hornet propelling the 20 gr. at 3650 FPS. Both are smokin!!

Interesting.
Given the number of problems they've had w/ the 17HMR (eventually recalling all semi-auto's),
I wonder if this version will be more tolerant of semi-autos or less so.
Inquiring minds would like to know.

I just ordered an Alexander Arms AR 15 with a .17 HMR upper. It is outfitted with a 10 round clip so will see how well it cycles. The reviews on it are good, there was a great article on it in one of the gun mags a while back. I can't wait to test it out this coming sage rat season!

Volquartsen makes a semi Automatic .17HMR that doesn't seem to have any issues.

My Alexander AR17 is money. I've put 100 or so rounds through it. It shoots 17gr hornadys into one ragged hole at 100 yds.

Gimme- Hopefully you don't have to wait the five months like I did.

Hey, glad to hear it! I was hoping to hear from somebody that had one. I'm half expecting a 5 or 6 month wait. I'm trying to decide what set up to go with for scope and mount. What did you go with? Can you post a pic of it?
Back to the OP, that .17 Super Mag is badass! I'm curious to see what they cost vs. .17HMR?

No this is a new case based on a high pressure stud driver for concrete. I'm guessing this rimmed case is even less suitable for semi-autos, but who knows. It looks like Savage will have the first rifles (bolt) out of the gate. I see they are trying to keep the cost of 50 rounds at about 15 bucks. At that price, I think sales will be hot. I'm also thinking that you could neck this case up to 20 caliber and call it the .20 IFC (Ifish Coyote). I'd guess you could get around 2550fps with the 32grain bullet.

Yup. Savage's new rifle comes with a rotary magazine, freefloated barrel, Accutrigger and a barreretaining device similar to the rifle's big bore brothers and sisters. In addition, Savage seems keen on keeping their single-shot roots alive and kicking with an additional WSM Rimfire offering in a low-wall configuration, as is Winchester. My advice would be to go with the Savage offerings because they're both made in America, retail for under $300 and $400 (contrary to posted MSRPs) and, well, they're from Savage, so you know they'll be more accurate than you or I on our best days.
