Default Terrible Minn Kota service

Hello, thought I would tell you guys my Minn Kota story. I bought a new motor in November, the Minn Kota Genesis. Cost: $ 1,600. It worked fantastic for a month. Last week it stopped working. So, I call Minn Kota and they try to help me fix it. Of course, nothing. Finally they tell me they will swap my motor for their next best motor. Cost: $900. They told me that do to a "marketing decision" they are not making the Genesis next year and would be happy to get me into another motor. The thing is, I lose $700 dollars. Anybody else think there is a problem with this motor or is it just me? So I tell this guy how bad a man he is and we part. They also told me that they have no Genesis motors whatsoever at their factory. Hmmm.

On a good note, Cabelas took the motor back no problem, no questions. They had extra motors but the manufacturer didn't? Hmmmmm.

Anyone else have bad service from Minn Kota or is this just an isolated event?

Sorry to hear about your experience. Minn Kota decided to discontinue their Genesis due to the high repair/failure rate they were getting. I would recommend opting for a Maxxum with auto pilot if you get another Minn Kota. The place I work at saw a lot of Genesis motors in for repairs. Motorguide is another option.

Although I have a Minn Kota Vantage 101 I am no fan of the company. However, when it failed I took it to Ollie Damon (authorized warrantee service center) and was very happy. My advice would be to never screw around with the factory if you can avoid it.
