Default Wilson River Report (12-23)

After hearing so much about jig fishing here on IFISH, I'd thought I'd give it a try. I purchased a pink jig at Fishermen's for $1.19 (couldn't find First Cast Jigs there).

I put a small sand shrimp tail at the end of the jig and off I went. I was still trying to adjust my depth when suddenly my bobber disappeared. My bobber didn't disappear like when it drags bottom but it went "poof." I frantically tried to retrieve all my slack line and when I finally set the hook, I saw the fish wink at me and disappeared. Eventhough I was disappointed, I was more excited to see a steelhead take down my bobber for the very first time! I know I still have a lot to learn, but I feel like I'm constantly learning. I already hooked 4 steelhead this month but only managed to land one.

Lesson learned today....reel in my slack line.

Merry Christmas and Happy Fishing!

Alan

Thanks for the report. Maybe you will get one on a jig. I am still new at Jig fishing and hope to try it next week after Christmas.
