Default Official Springer Report 2013

Is it too early to start sending in the reports? I know there a couple Ifishers reporting some catch already. I'm getting by boat ready as I write. What was the projected return for the Willy this year? 60K? Good luck to everyone out there this year!

Drove over the Sellwood today and half expected to see a boat out there (there wasn't any at 11am). Water is fishable.

Thats awesome there is so much interest in early springer fishing. I notice about the time the good Winters show up, the rivers are devoid of people. Cant argue with folks wantin to kill Salmon, but I still think you guys are crazy for givin up on Winters so soon!

No agenda here...

I will see you sorry suckers on the water starting in April or May when the fish get here. Please make sure to use all your bait and burn yourselves out before I get there so I can have all the water to myself.

What is all this burned out talk? There is no such thing for me! I got my first springer one February 5th and the last one late in June. Now your on to something with the bait point but I have plenty in the freezer to keep me fishing for a while.

Too early for me to start but I've been getting the boat ready for the last three weeks. Just need to get the new fish finders put in and I'm ready! I usually put a few on my tag in February.

My first springer isn't too far away, it will come when my third year asparagus sprouts are finally big enough to harvest. It just hasn't been the same with store bought asparagus to go with my first springer meals of the previous years, getting close.

Geesh! Talking about Springer fishing the first week in January is comical to say the least. A good friend of mine lives at Prescott Beach and fishes almost every day. The day he tells me someone got a Springer, and coastal river steelhead conditions suck, I will give it a try. My earliest ever was back in the 70's trolling a herring in muddy water off Brownlows Beach near Saint Helens. Got it on January 23rd, 1970. First Springer last year was March 3, 2012 on the CR near the PDX airport. A nice 22 lbr. Bernie (Catch and Eat) took the pic for me.

XXX caught two in one day early last year if I remember right. Vegas odds are pretty good for him to catch at least one early fish.

You are right! You could see his smile 10 miles away. He is the guy that got everyone stoked on Springers in February, and then it was game on. I personally think he needs therapy!

Here's proof of my January springer last year, caught plunking on the beach. Didn't get another one till march but several steelhead in-between.

(OK, so it was a native that splashed away before I got the picture taken so you'll have to trust me , and it was most likely a winter run not springer but don't get picky now!)

Ooops, I stand corrected annadramous. That was one heck of a report from you last year, I was planning on not hitting it hard until March, then you had to post landing TWO! Do you not realize how many cold, biteless days you inspired? Oh the cruelty.

If you already know the story, then you probably know they had to drive to 4 corners to buy a paper with the date on it.

Springers taste so much better than steelhead.

Here they come!

Just pokin some fun. Still think its too early to go freeze my butt off in the boat. There is usually one or two caught early that gets us all excited! Glad it was those guys that got it they put the work in for sure. A little steely drifting bonus

I'd rather have the buzz bomber up there than here

First of all, fresh Springer caught on the fifth of January is VERY tasty! ....AS for how the fish was caught, free drifting at BC with about 40 of our closest friends.

I'm going out tomorrow to get a feel for this barb less fishing. Spent a good part of an hour pinching the barbs down, sore hands now. I'm going to wait on the rest, doing the PU (pinch and use) while in the boat. When they start selling the barb less I'll change out my plugs.
