Default Any fish in the NF Lewis

Just want to know if there are any fish being caught. Don't want specifics, just want to know if people are still catching fish.

It's a morning bite at best. there are a select # of fish each morning usually on jigs or eggs.

I stopped there yesterday after work (near noon) and one thing I could not believe is the guys fishing right where the corkline ball is, are casting back up into the closed waters(6 of them). I made several comments as to fines, get the hell out of there, etc..Each just ignored me after looking to see if I was an official, then back to fishing the closed waters. I made a call to a recording at wdfw but no one arrived. These guys were very aware they were fishing the closed water as they constantly kept a watchful eye out while doing it!!

Was on the NFL last Friday, spent a small part of the day @ Cedar Creek, only saw one fish hooked, and that boat didn't keep it. a dozen bank fishers but no action atleast while I was there.
And I dont want to be edited so I'll keep my views on the outlaws at cedar creek to my self. I've fished the river since 86' and it doesn't seem to ever change

Just looking over the fence from time to time, I saw about 6 Winters or so being carried around today. The are a lot of Steelhead out there for sure and the morning bite seems to be the best.

Float & Jig or eggs = Best
Corkies = OK
Plunking = not that great

FYI-- We processed the last handfull of Coho today.

The Lewis hatchery ladder is now closed for the season. We will be using the Merwin trap for recruiting Winter Steelhead from now on.

FSHKLR

My neighbor called me over to his house today to give me a nice steelhead he caught on a bobber and jig. What was more important was that he told me several guys (5 or 6) were fishing inside the corkline at the hatchery. He walked over and explained to them that they couldn't fish inside the corkline as it is closed waters, thinking they maybe didn't know the regs. They told him to mind his own business as it would be their ticket, not his, if they got caught. A little while later, Mr. Gamewarden shows up and writes all of them up for fishing in closed waters. Also, a few of the fishermen on the bank had caught steelhead but didn't punch them, they too got tickets and their steelhead got confiscated and are going to the food bank.

Its nice to see that the bad guys don't always get away with it.

Another place that needs cleaning up is Three Rivers. Next time I'm there, I'm going to make the call. You won't get any comments about fishing closed waters. You will just get the game warden and his pad and pen.

If you see illegal activity by these low life types, here are the numbers:

Oregon Poacher Hotline:
1-800-452-7888

Washington Poacher Hotline:
1-800-477-6224

Yesterday we fished from the forks to the Woodland bridge without a hit. Didn't mark many fish either.

Nobody was willing to admit to catching anything.

Must be all up river.

Since the flow drop christams eve, the fish seem to be moving through and up to the dam. Landed 1 14lb friday afternoon and another of same size this a.m. Saw near 20 fish landed christmas eve through out the day but with the flow so low conditions are tuff and the bite is off.
fridays fish was eggs and this a.m's was peach colored glowball with cerise yarn. light line is the ticket with the low water. I have been using 8# on 6# and a #4 gami W/-1/2oz pencil lead. :grin:

Fished today on the lower section to the golf course with 2 takedowns and nothing to show for it. Used diver and bait all day.

Hey Downtime
I hope you let those dark fish go so that they could spawn. This is only way to build the winter run of chinook.
I urge all anglers to release these fish because of poor meat quality, but they are sure fun to hook up with for a chinookaholic.
Please catch and release. Thank you
