Default The Kalama...

Went up to the Kalama this am. Waste of time. Started at a spot they call the beginer hole. Jigg/float for a while, but too many people for my taste so drove down stream a bit. Parked under a little bridge and walked up and down as far as I could jigs, corkies, eggs, crawlers. I pretty much threw everything I had in the river. Nothing, zero, ZIP!! When I was packing up to leave, a guy in a drift boat asked if I would run him back up to his rig, which I did. He said they hooked one fish, briefly. He said it's been pretty dead up there for the last couple weeks. There's got to be fish somewhere around here!!

There are fish there, just not in great numbers yet. I've hooked a couple in the past two days and my partner has landed a couple. I've also seen some fish hooked and landed so they are there, you just have to work REAL hard to find them. Head further up the canyon.

Ya, I thought about heading up river more, but I'm not real familiar with the area, and it was noon, and my attitude had gone to hell, and etc, etc.... I think I'll just take a break from the whole thing until I start hearing some better reports from some of these rivers. But then again, I keep saying that and I keep going anyway! Darn this pet monkey!!!

Don't give up 'cause it's noon. We get quite a few fish in the winter after noon. Sometimes I don't even start fishing until 8 or 9.

Cover some water too. Throwing the kitchen sink at 'em won't make fish appear if they aren't there. Use a technique that matches the water condtions and then move on.

If your new to fishing the canyon, secure your valuables. That place is a haven for car break-ins.
If it is visible , they might get it. Lock it in the trunk

I have the next two weeks off (teacher), so I'll be fishing it as much as possible over the next weeks.

DJ is right(of course), this is the first year for me out of my DB and I have yet to put in before 8 and have got fish every time. Not bad for learning new water and sleeping in.

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helvetica">The Klama has slowed down a bit, but they are still there. Pressure has increased and the river is Clear need more rain. I have floated it 3X this year and hit 5 fish! The last trip I had to work for the fish though! Small bait! unless the water is high!

I've fished the Kalama canyon area twice in the last week and haven't come up with anything except a too-brief hook-up. I was drifting eggs. I love the river, but it's not loving me.
