Default 12/22 Alsea report

Took the youngsters to the Alsea this afternoon and fished at Clemens Park. The water was beautiful. We got two takedowns on bobber and jigs tipped with sandshrimp, and had them on briefly, but didn't get to take any fish home this time. The boys are getting their technique down, and starting to cast into the fishy looking water, rather than just wherever. Now we just need to get the hookset down, and we'll start bringing some home!

Thanks to everyone who posted tips on jig fishing! We even made our own floats from foam tubing and plastic coffee straws, with a strip of fluorescent tape on the top for color. It made about a dozen floats for a buck! Picked up that tip here on Ifish!

Glad to hear that you had some fish taking your bobbers under, Happybrew. The hardest part about bobber fishing is line management, and that becomes easier if you use 10-20 lb. Powerpro or another good braid, and put some sort of grease on the line like Chapstick, to keep your line floating. (A little trick courtesy of Grant Scheele.) Tie a 18" 10 lb Fluorocarbon leader to the end of the Powerpro, and it gets even easier to put the chrome on the bank.
