Default Need some Sandy info

Morning fishers,

Thought I'd go throw some tackle in the Sandy river, maybe with luck I'll brain a steelhead and snag it after he floats to the surface. Since I've never fished the Sandy - never even been there - can somebody offer me any information about fishing that river without giving away any secret information?

You're asking a big question there. The sandy's got more fishing than you can shake 20 sticks at.

My favorite free-style fishing events - pack a full tackle box and wander until you find the kind of water you love to fish.

I recommend parking at Dabney park and walking up or downstream. Expect to fall in a bit, it's rough there.

Or just jump off 84 just past troutdale. You'll see a bunch of trucks parked on the curve. Park there and follow the trails. Again, up or downstream are both rewarding.

There's a fishing shop in the town of Sandy. Head in there a little before daylight and stock up on what you need. Wait for friendly folks to come in (there are some surly ones too at that time of day!). I've had some great recommendations there.

Bring a bag to pack out trash, there are some real dogs fishing the Sandy, and I guess it's up to us to clean up after them.
