Finally!!!
As I mentioned in an earlier post, I love steelhead. Over the past couple of years I have become quite fond of fishing for them. Those who "don't know" would call it an obsession. Those who "do know" understand. Up until last summer, I hadn't had any luck. Only one fish hooked (for a split second) in at least 40 hours in 5 different rivers. Well, I guess all of the karma from all of those hours spent in the fish traps finally paid off. A friend took me to the Willamette just below Dexter. If any of you haven't been there or heard of it, "The Pipes" is known as a combat zone. I didn't even want to be there, but the McKenzie was dead and this spot was the next best bet. After a lot of coaxing and prodding from my friend, I claimed a spot in the middle of 20 or 30 locals. I have heard horror stories of arguments and guns at this location and to be honest I was very intimidated. I started casting a pink corky and got into the groove of "group" casting. Somewhere around a 1/2 hour went by and I hooked and landed a nice 10 lb female. I was so pumped that I had finally did it. That day was great. All in all, I hooked 5 that day and landed 2!
Thanks Johnny!
