Biggest Brag Post Ever(pics)
My 6 year old son Ben caught his first and second Steelhead ever yesterday fishing with me on the N. Santiam. He casted, set the hook and landed them all by himself. There is not a prouder dad around.
Here is the first, a nice 7lb hen,
Here is the second, a better 10lb hen,
For about 3 hours fishing he hooked 4 and landed 2 and I hooked 1 and lost it.
The second fish that he hooked jumped before he knew he had it on and it was every bit of 15lbs or bigger, but alas, it got off before it landed back into the water.
The only problem with the whole outing is that he is telling every one how he outfished his dad. And I mean everybody!

Awesome Grant,
That kids face looks like he's about to burst.
He looks like he's havin a ball.
I remember you recently telling me the story of your first steelhead, with your Dad there. No doubt your son will remember this day the same way.
You are blessed.
Keep it up Daddy.

Re: Biggest Brag Post Ever(pics)
Skein, you would think that he was ready to book trips the way he is acting. He keeps telling everybody that he out fished his dad and his dad is a "professional". I think that his mom taught him that word.

Re: Biggest Brag Post Ever(pics)
Oh sure,
One day there so cute when they catch that first fish and then...
It starts; you notice signs of the changing of the guard. Instead of Suess he is reading NWS, instead of TV, he's logged on to ifish, then it happens, you start to notice that consistently you are being out fished.
My 11-year-old daughter is the most nonchalant fish slayer anyone has ever met.
She can consistently out fish the crowd at Crane Prairie. It is uncanny. When she was about 8-years-old she went out in the boat with me (after a big camp breakfast and messing around until 8:30am ). We were the last boat out and get to my honey hole and I ask her, "What do you want to use Kasey?" She says, "Powerbait, Dad." I said, "ok, but what flavor do you want?"
She looked at me as if I had just asked the dumbest question ever and said, "Dad, RAINBOW FLAVOR for a rainbow trout!" Within 10 minutes she had put 3 fish in the boat none smaller then 17" and lost one hog that was the size of a chunk of firewood. She then tossed her pole in the bottom of the boat and took a nap. At that time I finally got the opportunity to finish baiting and make my first cast.
Congrats Ben, and keep the pressure on the ol' man it helps keep us young.

Re: Biggest Brag Post Ever(pics)
I notice the boat. Spring break thursday were you on the siletz? I was in a ol' woody. You've helped me tons in the last year with great information, that if it was, I wished I would have known so I could have thanked you personally. Looks now like I can just direct my questions to your son cause he clearly out fishes me.

Re: Biggest Brag Post Ever(pics)
Grant, Mckenzie drifter yes but were were anchored and on the bank as you passed us. Looked like you had two clients on board and I think you told us that you had hooked up with and released a native. We were egg tossing with no luck. Not your eggs though which by the way are much nicer then the ones we were using and around the same price. So, now at least something is learned. Pulling plugs at 3400 cfs for me is a bit to hard and I suspect for anyone. Being a flyfisher for 12 years and now adding gear fishing and drift boating to the mix has my head spinning. Just give me that run at 1900cfs and I'll see if my plug pulling improves. As for now the fish are very safe when they see the wood boat coming.

Re: Biggest Brag Post Ever(pics)
Fishen Fool, I figured that you would relate more to Kruechiefs observance of, "you start to notice that consistently you are being out fished" as it relates to a son outfishing his father. When did you start noticing this Phenomenon?

Nice job Grant! Your son's smile says it all.
My 10 year old daughter got her first steelhead Saturday, March 29th. She had such a good time she made me take her fishing for a couple hours the following Sunday morning. She's hooked! Here's the pic:

Way to go Grant!! Your son must have a great teacher!! this is what being a Dad is all about. Congrats to both of you
I took my very patient youngest son out again on Saturday to fish the Clack. As we're going down a really nice drift he gets the call of nature, so down go the rain pants to his knee and WHAM!!!a fish hits!! Well, the fish is still in the water!! Oh well, better luck nest time. I still wish he'd get one! :depressed:
