Default bobber fishing chinook

Hello ifish,
I'm a new member, just another bank fisherman trying to figure out how to do it right. I had fun bobber fishing for Chinook this fall, but still feel like a total amature.

Among other things, I'm curious how to choose a bobber depth for Chinook in river holes. Most of the fish I have caught have been about 10', but this is in clear water with low flow (and I could see the fish). Can anyone give theories on correct depths, and how clarity/flow effect the depth where Chinook hold?

I try for a foot or two off the bottom. If it's slow I adjust it trying to find out if the fish are suspended higher. Sometimes it works!
