Go to Gerhart on the Oregon coast. It's a shorter drive and good clamming.

Enjoy.

I have some family coming from back east and they would like to go clamming. I am in Salem. Are there any places that rent shovels or clam guns? Which works best ( I have never been) Anyone willing to pass on some tips? It would be much appreciated and some good info ( place, times, etc.) will be worth a couple of my hand tied steely jigs....
thanks

What about the sewage in the water? Is that a problem?

Went to Long beach just north of cranberry rd approach today. Hit the surf at 2:30...back in the truck headed home at 3:30 with 2 nice limits of clams!!!
Sunshine and 50 degrees?...This really can't be the washington coast in December can it?
I'll be back tomorrow.

Wally,
You can probably find a place to rent clam guns in Seaside which is close to Gearhart and Sunset beach (the preferred areas). Minus tides will be at night this week. Tuesday night -1.7. GI Joe's tide table has pictures of how to use a clam gun or shovel but the best source of info is on the Washington State Fish and Wildlife web site.
You can also go the the old Coast Guard pier in Garibaldi with shovels and dig cockels. Muddy, dirty work but lots of clams.
Good luck
