Default north santiam help

Goodmorning all.

I have to head to Stayton for a Wrestling tounament. Is there anything to fish for in the North Santiam around Stayton this time of year. If so where can I go. What do I use. I will be on foot as Willie can't go.

Thanks Bigjim

Steelhead are around Stayton, and most of them are last year's summer fish. Some are still in good condition. Some fresh winter steelhead are also available there, and they are native fish that must be released. There is an excellent drift under the Stayton Bridge, and access is best from the North shore. You can walk up and down the gravel bar and fish several good riffles. Green's Bridge is about 12 miles downstream and is a good bank fishing spot. Mehama Bridge is upstream about 12 miles. Because of recent snows and rains, the North Santiam will be fairly high for a week or so, but the fish are there. Good luck. Either heavy lures or smelly baits will work best.
