I realized that I hadn't verified that the computer microscope we got for our grandson was safe and childproof. Below are the results of my tests, with more field testing to be done later this morning. These are some of the close-ups of a few hooks I had around the house. (Not a bad "toy" for less than $50, huh?) Relevant captions are ABOVE pictures. I kept more pics but didn't want to overload Jenny's server. One interesting pic I didn't include was a #2 Gami abused by a Chinook - tip stayed amazingly sharp.
4/0 Gamakatsu Octopus - 200x mag.
This pup was bent right out of the package, but the others in the pack were OK. Made in Japan, packaged in Thailand. Maybe something happend during transit. Moral: test your hooks!
#4 Gamakatsu Octopus - 60x mag
Dave Johnson introduced me to this hook last year on the Clackamas. None better for passing "sticky" test in my opinion. Just look at that point.
#4 VMC Cone-Cut - 60x mag.
Another keeper. This is smaller than I usually use for winters, but I think the #1's are probably similar.
#1 Owner Cutting Point - 60x mag.
An engineering marvel! What an amazing tip. You can see why First Cast Jigs use these.
#1 Eagle Claw Laser nickel-plated - 60x mag.
I think Eagle Claw has the best taper, though the tip is no Gami.
7/0 Gamakatsu Octopus - 200x mag.
Doesn't look that sharp at high magnification, but remember it's a 7/0. Sturgeon machine. I think the fuzz is skin from my finger.
