*********/chub tips? Hogmaster???
So, Hogmaster proceeded to outfish us last week, by getting one of his guests, Sturgeon Tom, I believe, into a massive 10inch *********. This got my feeble mind thinking.
I'm bringing my 7 yr old along one day soon, and I thought I'd rig his rod for ********* and chubs, and let him have some fun. Anyone got any ideas for best bait/rig? Hogmaster, I'd appreciate any of your unparalleled expertise on this subject. I'm told that you're the go-to guy, here.
And yes, I'm serious. I used to catch chubs when I was ten, and I think my son will have as much fun as I did. That may be more fun for him than playing gameboy while we wait for a salmon.
We used to use canned corn and worms when I was a kid. Any other ideas?

Re: *********/chub tips? Hogmaster???
Am I going to take this bait? Hmmmm....
This is like setting up one of those BOZO punching bags!
1) I hear sand shrimp can be an effective bait. You might want to check the front of your scow.
2) Get him in another boat. No fish, even trash fish are likely to be within casting distance of your slime trail.
3) In spite of your thinly veiled attempt at disguising your true motive, namely SLAVE LABOR, we all see that you simply want him to catch Northern Pikeminnows for the $4.
4) Do not give him seal bombs. They are not legal for ********* either!
5) One other good bait is a grub. Better check that bow.
6) I hear bacon works too. Might be good to send some over the side instead of down your gullet!
This is realy ********* Tom's area of expertise. I am sure he can let you in on a few more!

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helvetica">That may be true. It is the quota setting and "pay for breakfast and lunch plan" that seems a tad harsh!

Re: *********/chub tips? Hogmaster???
Silver Hilton, the technique that worked for me today on a 14" ********* was a sardine wrapped K14 fickle pickle. No lie, my rod danced around a bit and with all the wind I had some slack so I reeled in to check and Wahlah. It seems like I was the only guy in that area of the river today to catch anything. Did you get out today? We were downstream of Willow Grove, too much brown and too much wind to actually fish for very long.

Re: *********/chub tips? Hogmaster???
Well, we've been getting a bunch on the kwikies, too. It's amazing what those little fish will bite. Actually, most of the ones I have seen have been peamouth chub, rather than *********, but they'll all be fun for Jacob. No money for those fish. I used to catch a bazillion of them when I was a kid.
I was hoping that Squawmaster would part with some of his wisdom, but he seems preoccupied with dissing me and my boat. Funny how a little envy can just eat on someone, isn't it?
Gary, I'd be happy to take you out sometime and show you what it's like to get up on plane in less than 200 yards.

Re: *********/chub tips? Hogmaster???
Slayer, I haven't been out since monday. Hoping the water will be clearer by friday. I want my boy to see what a springer feels like. If I can find a piece of water untainted by Willie stench, he might get a shot at one.

Re: *********/chub tips? Hogmaster???
NorthRiver envy? I don't think so!!!
I have to admit that cozy cabin looked pretty appealing once the west wind started blowing and you dropped the back curtains. But then I realized that would have meant being in an enclosed space with, well, need I go on?...
Sure is a real purdy lookin' thing tho.
Find any good bait yet???? You might want to be looking!

Re: *********/chub tips? Hogmaster???
You know, Hog, as I've said before, you're just like a flirting teen-ager. You know you want to come in the boat of sinfully comfortable fish death, you're just afraid that, just like if you got invited to a nice golf course, you won't know what to do. Don't worry, I'll be nice... You won't even have to wear a dress.

Re: *********/chub tips? Hogmaster???
Medium cheddar cheese, molded around a #14 treble.
You'll probably get 3 peamouths for every ********* you catch.
We scouted a few spots for ********* during the flotilla, and all kidding aside, there was a nice backcurrent along that riprap bank where we were. No surprise that ********* Tom got one there.

Re: *********/chub tips? Hogmaster???
Medium, huh, not extra sharp? Those fish are picky!
Do they want a nice dry chardonnay with it?
Thanks for the suggestions - I'll post a pic.
