As Justcastn mentioned in his thread on Saturday, I was not having a good morning that day. Put the boat in at Chinook and it would not start. I just had $900 worth of work done on this motor 3 weeks ago. Replaced the trigger box and the stater. Saturday it was acting like the same as before, would turn but no spark. (I need to mention that Beaver Marine in Gresham replaced the trigger box last year and told me the stater was weak. They did not tell me that not replacing the stater could cause the trigger box to go out again )
So I called the mechanic that did the work a few weeks ago yesterday morning, Dave Gonyea owner of Gonyea Marine and Automotive in Gresham, and he said to bring it by. I get to the shop 15 minutes before he closes. Rather than telling he will look at it in the morning, he immediately tears into it. BTW, I broke a belt on a tire on the way and they changed the tire for me too. Anyway, an hour later, 45 minutes after they are suppose to close shop, I pull away with a fully functioning motor, and without a bill. Not really sure what the cause of the no start, other than maybe there was no fuel getting to the carbs.
So to recap, he worked after hours, changed a bad tire, went completely through the ignition system, did a compression test, adjusted carbs and all FOR FREE!
So the moral of this story.....
If you need good, honest boat work at a reasonable price and in a timely manner go to
Gonyea's Marine and Automotive in Gresham.
