New Fishing Gadget...
Biosonix transmits digital recordings of the sounds made by distressed baitfish and feeding fish, as well as other fish attracting underwater sounds; the purpose is to draw gamefish to the source of the sound. The products development is based on research that indicates the importance of sound and vibration to the feeding behavior of fish. Portable, the Biosonix unit is housed in a waterproof case and is simple to operate. Now just think if you are sitting in a hogline and have this hanging under your boat! I wrote the Company and said I would love one of those items.

Re: New Fishing Gadget...
Anybody think this idea would come in handy for this upcoming Springer season?

Re: New Fishing Gadget...
I have wondered if recording a herring ball under attack by salmon and birds would or could be recorded and played near your boat as an attractant. It seems like such an obvious idea I've wondered why one of the tackle companies hasn't brought something like it to market. If the whole thing ran off a 12 volt battery you could put it in just about any size boat. Recordings could be made for various bait fish. A fisherman would end up buying several recordings. Then the discussion would be which recording worked best at Bouy 10, or a hogline at Oregon City, or trolling at Davis Bar. I wonder what it would be like if six fisherman, fishing next to each other, were playing a different recording at maximum volume. Talk about a feeding frenzy!

I'll bet this attracts sealions pretty well, too, if it works.

Re: New Fishing Gadget...
A friend sent me a pointer to an article on the Nov. 5 page of NewScientist.com's website awhile back, coincidentally on the same subject. It adds more detail about the true source of the sounds of herring in distress. Fast Repetitive Tick (FRT) is the scientific term, remarkably similar to the slang term for the human version of the sound. "FRT" can also be used in the website's search engine to locate the article. Informative AND entertaining.

Re: New Fishing Gadget...
PHN, interesting article. I used to stand a lot of SONAR watchs when I was in the submarine service. Never occured to me I might have been listening to lots of little herring farts. It's amazing how much sound various forms of sea life make. From whales all the way down to very small fish and shrimp. Plus animals that haven't even been identified. That's why I expect someday recordings of feeding salmon or just schools of bait fish might be used to attract fish.
