Bill, Pete, and Jennie.... Springers (not)
Launching at Westport at 9:00 AM this morning, we encountered the beginning of the outgoing tide.
The parking lot was about 1/8 full.
The Columbia had about 1 1/2 foot visibility, but unfortunately, we were hit with an unusually strong East wind.
We were one of three boats in sight. We were anchored near Puget Island. (One of the other boats had an ifish sticker on it, and they got a fish! Who were you? A keeper, I presume! We thought you kept it, right? COOL!)
We were surprised there weren't more boats around! It was almost dead out there!
Our assortment of Kwikfish couldn't seem to produce a hook up at all. It was our first skunk in this area since finding it, a number of years ago.
Anyway, that's my report, and I eagerly await more like it! Let's talk springers!
Jen

Re: Bill, Pete, and Jennie.... Springers (not)
Actually it was VERY good, skunk and all!
We had a blast and I want to go back!
See, to me, it's not the biggest, it's not the most... it's just that I love the act of fishing more than anyone in the world.
That's the point I like to brag about most.
I like to fish more than youuuuuuuu dooooooo
I like to fish more than you hoo hoo hoo.
I like to fish more tha youuuuuuuuu doooooo!
Even thought I don't catch fish!
OK, so after two months of this, I may get frustrated... But I've only just begun! This is the first trip out for our boat!
There will be lots more chances in the weeks to come! AND... I'm going to win the biggest springer contest this year!

Re: Bill, Pete, and Jennie.... Springers (not)
Fortunately, there will be more trips! That mid-60's runabout that thought a 10 pound shovel anchor would hold them in the heavy current and sand bottom ... they were moving so fast it looked like they were backtrolling! One guy apparently jigging for the anchor rope with a spinner, the "captain" keeping a sharp eye on his bow - oblivious to his downstream movement! Headed straight at the Hedland Sled! At the last minute he fired up his outboard and avoided hitting our rope by, oh, at least a couple inches. Maybe they should have started the Boater's Education Certification program at the other end of the generational spectrum!

Re: Bill, Pete, and Jennie.... Springers (not)
Whe I first met my wife, I asked her about fishing. She told me she hated fishing...she had been fishing for 20 years and had yet to catch a fish. Her grandfather was a purist fly fisherman from Scotland and he was the one who took her...only dry flies and little in the way of instruction (she was a girl afterall.) When I finally got her out on the water for the first time, I made sure we could catch some fish (planted trout)and she had a ball! Since then she has really learned to be an avid fisherwoman. She still says she hates fishing....she loves catching! Thus the connection to Jennie's story! We will be out tomorrow around Kalama, trying to get the skunk to go swimming and so she can "go catching"

Hi Jennie,
Must confess, that was my boat with Ifish stickers. You gave those to me at the sportsman show about three or four years ago! We did catch a keeper about 15 lbs. Next time please come over and say hello.
