Default 1st trip to the Columbia.....tips?

Hi all, I will be making my first trip to the Columbia next week was hoping for some helpful tips. We will be launching at the mouth of the Cowlitz. Not looking for anyone's secrets, just a few tips to make it a safe trip and hopefully catch a few kings. Thanks all.

Humor? Catch a few Kings? This springer fishing ain't like ocean, or buoy 10 fishing. You must put in your time to catch springers. Plan on fishing for the better part of the day, and if you get a takedown, you were doing it right,,,,,,,If you hook a fish you are doing better than average,,,,,,and if you manage to catch a fin-clipped hatchery fish and get it into the box, consider yourself very fortunate,,,,,but to catch a few??? Guess you're planning on fishing for a week or two huh?

If the river is in shape just anchor up in about 15 to 25 feet of water in the mouth of the cow. Filet up a beautiful sardine and wrap it around your favorite quick fish with a 18" dropper line and kick back. Oh, you might want to check the tide first to make sure it's of the outgoing type. If so, put on some tune's, swap a few lies and fire up the barbacue. Then as stated eariler with some luck and a little time (FISH ONNNNN!!). Hope that helps. It works for me. SPACE FISH

Hey doubletake if you are going to use the gearhart gardens ramp be careful I heard alot of sand has filled in and is REALLY shallow and hard to get out. Might want to use a different ramp. GOOD LUCK

Slugranch, how would you put it, I am going down to not catch any kings? I may be optomistic, but that is what makes it fun, and yes I am planning on spending the day or more.

Thanks for the input gentlemen, take care all.

Craig, I'll be down there friday, saturday, and sunday. Happy to show you around. I'll be somewhere in the pack of boats above the Cowlitz, on the Oregon side. Generally, I'm in the middle to upper end. My boat has my name on the cooler now, so I should be easy to find. e-mail me at andrewbr@attbi.com if you want more help. Friday I'll be getting down there probably midmorning, saturday and sunday at o-dark thirty.

Fishing is picking up down there. I think next weekend could be pretty good, and the weekend after that should be smoking.
