Default 16th anniv. "FIN CLIPPING" party- BOE Jetty fishery!

You are cordially invited to our 16th anniversay "FIN CLIPPING" party! (and afterwards, a fun night of Jetty fishing with BOE! (Click on those words for more info!)

WHO: You, you, and all the rest of you!
WHAT: Fin clipping of approximately 100,000 spring chinook!
WHERE: Whiskey Creek Volunteer Fish Hatchery
WHEN: 9:00A.M. April 12th 2003
WHY: We need your help to do the job... and...and...

WE WILL BE SERVING HAMBURGERS!!!!

(And chicken, hot dogs, and chips!

COME ONE, COME ALL!

Everyone is welcome! Bring your friends and neighbors! We'll show you how to be a first class clipper in no time!
Dress appropriately for the weather. Even though the hatchery is under cover, it can still be cool and damp. We'll clip until we're finished (around 2:00 PM.) We'll break for lunch, and this year we'll serve hamburgers! For more information, please contact President Jerry Dove, 503.842.6519, or email, jdovetillanglers@tillanet.com or contact Secretary/Treasurer Jim Woods at 503.842.5395

-------
From last year's posts:
Please come on down to the coast and join us in the annual Tillamook Anglers Fin clipping day!

Dress extremely warm!
Bring the family!

It is an education, fun time!

It is taking place at The Whiskey Creek Hatchery which is located on Netarts Bay, 2 miles north of Cape Lookout State Park.

I did a look up on Cape Lookout State Park, and came up with these directions from Portland:

1: Start out going West on WILSON RIVER HWY towards OR-6 by turning left. 4.5 miles
7.2 (km)
2: WILSON RIVER HWY becomes OR-6. 0.5 miles
0.8 (km)
3: OR-6 becomes WILSON RIVER HWY/OR-6 W. 0.2 miles
0.3 (km)
4: WILSON RIVER HWY/OR-6 W becomes 1ST ST/OR-6 W. 0.2 miles
0.4 (km)
5: 1ST ST/OR-6 W becomes 1ST ST/US-101 N/OR-6 W. 0.1 miles
0.1 (km)
6: Turn LEFT onto MAIN AVE/US-101 S. 0.1 miles
0.2 (km)
7: Turn RIGHT onto 3RD ST. 0.7 miles
1.1 (km)
8: 3RD ST becomes NETARTS HWY. 4.2 miles
6.8 (km)
9: Turn SLIGHT LEFT onto WHISKEY CR RD. 5.1 miles
8.2 (km)
10: WHISKEY CR RD becomes CAPE LOOKOUT RD. 0.0 miles
0.0 (km)
11: You're in the vicinity of the state park. Look for the state park shield or name on a sign along the roadway.

If you decide to join us, why not take it a step further and fill out Tillamook Angler's Membership Form! Or, you can sign on the dotted line, there at the hatchery.
You'll see your dollars at work, we promise!

People often ask, "What can I do?"

This is a great way to start!

-----------------------

"Follow the signs to Cape Look Out State Park. At every intersection there will be a sign that says FISH with an arrow. If you get to the state park you have gone 2 miles too far."

I would dress VERY warm. We will be under cover however but the wind will blow though the area where we will be.

Waterproof boots are a must. I have bib rain pants so I wont need the coat. There should be no slime at all. If there is something is wrong, it's NOT fillet and release.

I think Jerry was going to get latex gloves and that may help keep your hands semi warm. I dont like them cuz I dont have the feel.

There is an area that is heated and you'll be able to warm up inside. Staying dry is the key. Dont let the weather scare you away. You wont get rained on and we need your help. With enough help we're usually done by 2 or 2:30.

Wear your ifish hats and waterproof boots and rain pants!!!!

See ya there!

If you have never participated, it is a lot of fun. Last year, we had clipped 100k by lunch time. I think it was a record. Lots of people showed up. If you took a break, you had to wait in line to get a spot to clip again. Whole families showed up. It was great. I would recommend that you bring your rain gear and rubber boots.
The wife and I will be doing the fin clipping and then hitting the jetty get together. Sounds like a great day. Hopefully, the sea bass will be a bit more cooperative this year.

Should be intresting to see a bunch of inner city kids clipping fins!

My dad and I will be there, this is our first time doing anything like this and we are excited. If it was'nt for Jen, Ifish and the information and resources that they provide, alot of people would never hear about the issues and volunteer programs that are availiable to help our environment. You are doing a great thing!!!!!Thank you.

See you all there!!!

Dear Jerry & Jennie:

Hello fellow ifish member I've just read the post from Jennie. I'm wanting to find out if kids are allowed as well? I have a 15 year old two 13 year olds and a 9 year old and I would like to get them involved with this project. If kids are allowed my son belongs to a boy scout troop and this could be a good service project for the den of 10 and 11 year old boys. Please let me know , so I can make some arrangements with there parent's.

Thank's

Hook'em

Hey, if you come to the fin clipping you won't go away hungry. We just bought 100lbs of hamburger, 10 bags of potato chips, 200 hot dogs, ordered buns for both, 2 gallons of relish, lots of mayonnaise, 2 gal. bread and butter pickles, etc. Have 400 piece of Fred Meyer Chicken coming. 30 Doz. Doughnuts, lots of hot chocolate, hot coffee, lots of Pepsi. What more would you want? Sure sounds like fun to me. See ya there. Jerry

This is great I wanted to come last year but had other commitments. This year my wife and I will be down for her birthday on the tenth and I mentioned the fin clipping to her on Saturday and we both want to come to help out. I think what the club and board is doing is great, my wife and I hope to participate more in the future.

taken; time. Just come to Tilllamook and follow the signs to Cape Lookout State Park. If you get to the park you have gone two miles to far. If you go past the hatchery and do not see it, belive me you do not want to clip fins, you will cut off your fingers. (HA). You can't miss it. Thanks. If you do get lost, on fin clipping day, call 503-815-2555. thanks Jerry

Jennie,
Any chance you will have some hats at the fin clipping or jetty get together? Hopefully I will be at both. If you do, I would like one of those nice green ones.

thanks,

I am bummed.
I forgot all about the Steelheader's Auction Saturday Night. Too much going on lately!
I can't go to the jetty fishery, and that is one of my favorite events...
You know why? Cuz I don't have to do all the planning, and because BOE runs a fun party!

Anyway... I'm going to the steelheader's auction and banquet. I am looking forward to that, too, it's just that I'd like to do both.

I will have a couple hats at the fin clipping. I don't have many, though!
I do have green ones.
E mail me to reserve one.
Jen
