greetings from philadelphia
Hello fellow fishermen(& women),
My name is Matt, I'm from Philadelphia PA and I'm an avid fisherman who mainly fishes for carp but I also fish for trout when looking to explore hidden mountain streams. I used to fish for a wide range of species but once I discovered the challenges and adreline rush that are a part of fishing for specimen carp (20+ lbs.), I have become obsessed with carp fishing. My style of fishing would be considered "euro", using baitfeeder reels, bolt and hair rig terminal tackle, large rods with light action and baits baits such as boilies and maize.
In late May/early June I will be fishing the Western U.S from TX to British Columbia for a few weeks. Before doing some trout fishing and a strugeon trip in British Columbia, I plan to stop off in Oregon to fish for carp somewhere on the Columbia River system. While I recognize most of the contributors to this forum probably don't fish for carp, I was hoping to learn more about trophy carp fishing on the Columbia river. From what I have heard, there are some trophies dwelling in the river that receive almost no angling pressure.
Are there any carp fishermen on the forum? Could anyone recommend good carp fishing venues on the Columbia or it's back sloughs in Oregon? I am really excited to visit and fish Oregon, since I have never been there.
Best, Matt

Hey Phillyguy, Welcome to the board. If you're passing through Eastern Ore on your way up North, give me a hollar and I'll show some of the Snake River. It is loaded with carp! I'll be glad to show you the fish, you show me how to catch them, Euro style. I've been using a solid glass arrow for bait. Works good too!

Re: greetings from philadelphia
We used to have a weekly carp report on the bass & warmwater board. I forgot who was doing it, haven't seen it in a while.
I'm sitting here waiting for the Eagles/Packers game to start. Been waiting 2 weeks for this!
Jennie deleted my Eagles avatar, and I can't find the URL where I found it a long time ago. :depressed: So if Philadelphia loses today, it's all Jennie's fault!

There. I got you your Philly avatar. If you don't like it, let me know, and I'll find you another.

Re: greetings from philadelphia
Welcome,
You should look into sturgeon here on the Colmumbia before you try 'em in Canada, we've got many more.
As for carp, you wont have much company. There's lots of sloughs around Portland full of 'em.

Welcome, I wonder if you are the registered member (who hasn't moved to there from here) living at the greatest distance from the Kilchis?
Do a search for the Pot Holes in central Washington. You can fish Carp for a long time there.
If I were you (and taking my advice  ) I would start my trip in BC and work toward Texas. Best return for your vacation investment.

Thanx, Jennie!!
I saw all the warnings about pics, but I didn't notice that it included avatars.
Selective reading, I guess.
I was starting to suffer avatar anxiety, especially when the Packers went up 14-0.
Now it's tied at 14/14, I have an avatar, and life is good!

Re: greetings from philadelphia
Phillyguy, The Snake River in southern Idaho, Eastern Oregon (it forms the border) is loaded with carp. I fly fish for them Let me know if you will be cruizing through the area, and I will hook you up with a combination Carp, Bass, Sturgeon, Catfish trip.

Re: greetings from philadelphia
You like carp and I can respect that but might I make a humble suggestion. You can fish for carp any day back east. Why not try for some salmon or steelhead. If you think those beastly carp can give you a rush you have to see a mint bright steelie tail walk and cartwheel. There is many runs out here and some quality guides on ifish who could hopefully show you some fish on a given day. Good luck.

Doh! If it had been marked Avatar, I wouldn't have deleted it!
Fishless in Philly
Carpless on the coast... and a losing team to boot!
ARGH!
