odfw says there should be winters all the way up to marmot dam. if you're into C&R, you can try above the dam. not a lot of folks go up that way, so you're old spots should be empty.

Don't have my regs handy but I'm pretty sure it's closed above Marmot. There are bright and boot fish scattered throughout the system right now.

Yes it is closed above Marmot. Try below the dam there's plenty of water.

It's been closed to salmon/steelhead above marmot for about 4 years now. Opens for non-bait trout fishing during trout season. Had friends hook fish at oxbow and dodge today.

Good Luck Fishing, I'll be there too.

so, does "closed" mean no fishing or just catch and release? i'd assumed C&R would be okay, but i'm not into C&R fishing myself so it's not really a question i've sought the answer to.

It is closed (defined as "no fishing of any kind") to salmon/steelhead fishing above marmot dam all year. In the WIllamette zone all steelhead/salmon fishing is closed unless specifically noted in the specific stream regulations. It is a little difficult to understand. Just like, no bait can be used for trout fishing unless noted in the specific stream regulations. Last summer during opening trout season I saw no less than 12 people in one small area using worms and eggs for trout on the salmon river above marmot. Obviously, they didnt understand either. The cops were out in force giving tickets. Bottom line, if you have a pole in your hand outside of trout season (April 26 - Oct 31)....TICKET. If you have bait while fishing anytime, all year long...TICKET.

Hope this helps. See regs below.

You can pretty much forget about the Sandy. It has risen almost 2 feet today!
