Default Nestucca Questions

To those of you who fished or drove by the Nestucca today: What did the color look like? Below the high banks? To those of you who know the river well, do you think it will hold up tomorrow? The NWRFC predicts it to rise to 6.47 by 10 AM and 6.78 by 4 PM. I’d rather have fished it today, while it was still falling, but that is the way it goes. My little sister is coming into town and I’ve got 2 potential dates to take her fishing: 12/20 or 12/27. Should I wait a week? I only get to take her fishing about once per year, so I want to get it right. Any info will be much appreciated.

Rising waters rarely fish well.

Fishable heights depend on how long it has been on the drop. Sometimes it has to be 5.5' to be fishable. I have caught fish at 8'( exception to the rule.). So it depends.

Unless it is a huge rain event( flooding) the Tuck should fish within 2-4 days depending on conditions, Windy and cold like it has been lately accelerates this. Cloudy and damp slows it down.

When in doubt, call Ron at Nestucca valley. Not many folks know better than he will.

I know I'd rather be fishing while its dropping, which might be the case if I wait a week. Or, it could be blown out an unfishable next week.

I'll be glad when the water drops. The Nestucca, Kilchis, Nehalem, and Wilson are going to be loaded. I can't wait until a certain spot is fishable on the Nestucca, it's me, the cows, and some steel. Solitude is nice.

In the mean time, fish high in the system when the water is high, fish low to mid stream in the system when the water is low. Really that's true of all rivers.
