Oar grips are easily replaced ... find the right size at a local outdoor store (G.I.Joe's or Fisherman's). When you're ready to replace them, soak the grips in very hot water for about 5 minutes, put a drop of liquid soap on the oar handle, then slide the grip on. It helps to put the blade of the oar against a wall so you can push against it.

Another tip that the rafting guru from Andy and Bax's told me was to lube the inside of the grip and the handle that you are putting the grip onto with hairspray. It slides on nice and glues on the grip when it dries. I used this method and the grips have never felt loose.

D

edit: Oh and like Pete said, don't forget to warm up the grip in hot (not boiling) water.

Hairspray is great because it acts to lubricate the grip as it goes on and then dries quickly adding enough glue to hold the grips in place. It is what we always used for grips on mountain bike handlebars when I worked in a bike shop. It is particularly handy if you have an air compressor and a nozzle to shoot the air between the grip and the oar. It aids in putting the grip on and it also dries the hairspray.
