Default Longview report 3-17

Not much going on. No fish for 10 boats, probably 15 rods. Water visibility about 2 feet. I crackered one on a herring yesterday, up near Kalama.

Sure you don't want to move the Flotilla up to Camas?

Darn tooting I don't. On sunday I had a takedown. That'll keep me going for a week.

Seriously, in another week there could be plenty of fish there, and Camas could be dead. Or the reverse. There's lots of room at Longview/Kalama area, and it just doesn't get as crowded as the other areas. The place I've got in mind for the flotilla, there isn't one little narrow slot you have to be in to catch fish, there's a wide bar, actually several of them, so we all should have a good shot. It's all just gonna depend on whether we get fish in the river.

You gonna come party with us?

Pump, there's also a launch in Kelso on the Cowlitz that is an easy run down, if you have a jet. The Port of Kalama is pretty deluxe. There's also a launch at the Kalama River, but it's rough, requires a washington sticker (the Kelso one may as well) and you'd best have a jet. I've never used it.

Kalama gets my vote.

We'll be starting at the crack of dawn, partly for the dawn bite, partly to beat the rush at the ramp, and partly just because I can't sleep before fishing. I got up at 3:30 and motored down in the dark and the fog monday. Didn't do me any good, but, boy, did I feel like a Man of The River.

Goble should be fine for access to this spot.

With my luck so far this year, if I had a takedown, I'd stay there 'til I died from exposure. And I guarantee ya, if we went to Camas, the bite would be hot at Longview. And being a late March Sunday, it's gonna be a zoo everywhere. Speaking of, anybody know how many river miles from Goble to Rainier? I might launch at Goble to avoid a crowd in Rainier. I'm not real familiar with that stretch of river, so this is a good excuse to go check it out.

I can't commit 100% yet, but even if I work on Sunday I might make it down there for a half day. Are you guys starting real early? I realize you're fishing with The Geek, but that shouldn't stop you. Just give him a blankie, a pillow, and a teddy bear and he'll be content.
